First Impressions (Not Good)

I didn't experience any significant bugs tbh.

Just missing core designs which should be present in a beta. Beta is more about server load and balancing... not implementation of core fundamental game aspects.

That is my issue

This is your problem OP. This is more akin to a proper Beta and not the marketing "Betas" your expecting. Revise your expectations and treat it as you would probably expect an Alpha to be and you should get on better.

However that is on you for not doing a bit of research.

I'd also advise you to ask for help politely if your having difficulties, instead of trashing the game many here love dearly, with your first posts, when your expectations and assumptions are flawed to begin with.

Good luck Commander, your probably going to need it.

The basic misunderstanding here lies in the word "beta".

Frontier is using the term in the professional software developer's sense, as in "not ready for public release yet, not all features implemented, please test the parts we did finish already so we can fix bugs that we haven't found ourselves yet and get them polished". We are, basically, part of the development team at this point.

OP seems to have understood "beta" in the unfortunately common OpenSource context, where it is used to describe a product that the author considers ready for release but flags it "beta" so he'll have an excuse if it doesn't work properly.

;)

Oh well, I guess the Devs just didn't get the memo on how computers are more efficient that humans for space travel.

I Guess MAYBE they thought this was a game, something designed for people to actually interact with and not just sit there watching your autopilot fly you everywhere?

Just a guess though :D

How much easier must comms be? SELECT comms panel - find friend name - select friend name - text message/voice comms - talk to friend.

I think OP have some very valid user input from a new user perspective. I can totally understand his feelings and experience (because we all know what he is talking about).

//elite fanboy goggles on

Its still beta and hopefully FD will adress all OPs valid points. If not ... We will see alot more of these posts after full lunch.

You didn't like it, therefore it's a bad game. Makes perfect sense.

You should not be surprised, noodle. This is the kind of mentality I've come to expect from testers (who actually think they're playing THE GAME) that what they see and experience now in the beta is what they think they can expect to see and experience in the final game.

Yeah and we all hate having to deal with posts like this after a full lunch! I prefer to sleep!

:p

wow toxic community is toxic.

Just simply stating my impressions of the game. Relax fanboys. I am giving the devs feedback on my experience to help them improve.

Yeah it can be toxic like most communities if they sense an attack, especially when they see new users/post that to them can be seen as negative... but there are also very good and decent forums members who will help you....

I would consider myself a pretty decent gamer... played various genre's except for all that Dragon and Magic garbage like WoW (see I insulted them)... but I found E D 's controls pretty intuitive right off the bat... I was playing mouse and keyboard until I went to joystick and then full HOTAS so that I could get a feel of the game play...

Single player scenario's are perfect for learning however as stated as this is Beta not everything is in the game... and the single player scenarios are in fact from Alpha so there are no in built guides, tutorials etc...

As with everything your mileage will vary... I was enthralled by what the game was going to be (it's still not a game at this point) that I stumped up the cash for Alpha... it was a "Shut up and take my money"...

There's more to come, changes, additions etc so don't be discouraged by your first experience... give it a fair shake of the stick...

Well I wasted 75 dollars today thinking that I would play their game. I am a fan of the genre so I figured why not. Chris Roberts... do yourself a favor and pay them 75 dollars and play their game... and implement everything exactly opposite of how their game works. Its terrible. Travelling is terrible, grouping is non existent, combat is terrible, everything about it was disappointing and honestly it was the most frustrating gaming experience I have had in over 20 years of gaming.

That is all. But seriously, do yourselves a favor and make sure not to make the HUGE mistakes that they made.

I am now more than ever looking forward to SC

His post on ED from the ED topic on the SC forums.
And he calls this community toxic.
Hypocrisy perfected.

Welcome to the Elite Dangerous forums. If you aren't 100% satisfied, haven't read every thread on the forum and don't have either a Elite logo or a picture of David Braben tattooed somewhere on your body somewhere we'll get the pitch forks and run you out of town.

Hyperbole much?

yea, it's just a misconception about the term beta, created by the Early Access and Beta game trend in the last years

the OPs understanding of a beta will probably better relate to the gamma-version of ED
