first impressions

If you stay slow and tight you are essentially becoming a turret. If you are tougher and better armed than the other guy, you will come out on top, but only if the other guy is doesn't notice what you are doing. If he does, he'll either leave, or withdraw and re-engage.

Increasing the power to your engines also increases your angle of attack, you can your nose faster. It's challenging, but if you can pull it off, you take way less damage, and your enemy won't be able to pull away.

Greetings Commanders.

I just got the alpha combat module news on the day my beta purchase was verified. Nice timing I think. Thanks Frontier. :D
I dl'ed the installer, alpha scenarios, and then started grinning, laughing and getting goosebumps. Its been thirty years since my Commodore 64 and those crazy days in Diso system.. :) Damn its good to finally, finally, see David and his team make this happen.

Ive had limited time to get into the combat tutorials so far. The game (on first impressions) astounds me.. and I was expecting no less. I am having serious problems waiting for my DK2, so I can (virtually) sit in the cockpit.

I need help from you vets out there for the fourth fight.. Four Fed Sidewinders against me has proven too much so far. I can take out the third challenge fairly easy as long as I stay cool on the power management and mess with him by reverse thrusting for seconds here and there. (AI is never going to be able to keep up with a devious wetware brain..) Any good tactics for taking on a group of four?

For fourth use power management a lot. While with backside to fighters, use all pips for system. When shooting them, all pips to weapons. When turning to get them at the front, all pips to engine.

When flying towards them for first time, pick one and try to get down it as fast it can. If you get down to three it's more manageable. One of them usually have no shield, so if you lucky and get it first, your chances to survive will increase a lot.

An adaptation of the earlier easy tactic, not so good anymore, but works:

And a good way to deal with them (by Slone):

Get away from Anaconda, you will be toast otherwise. If you get down to three it's more manageable. One of them usually have no shield, so if you lucky and get it first, your chances to survive will increase a lot.

theres a conda in recon wing!?!?!??!!!

thanks for the links and the tips. i have more time later tonight for practice. less sleep, more combat instruction.. increased prospects of survival, come september ;)
