First insurance cost built into price

But not a whine or a rant or even a complaint.
Just an idea / thought.

I was thinking about the reason people (well, mostly me, since I don't know exactly how others think) are tempted to fly without insurance.
From what I can tell, it seems to be that what drives us to fly without insurance is when we initially first get that sparkly new ship. We've grinded. We've scrimped and saved and we now have enough to buy it.

But we didn't realise how much the insurance was going to be.
Perhaps we'll just take it out for a short trip... you know, just to get the 'feeling' of it.
Nothing too risky.

Whoops! Who put that toaster grill there!?! BOOM!

And so the stories go on...

So, how about that first insurance payout for "free"? (Only valid the first time you buy a particular class of ship to prevent abuse)
You get one strike...
The next one's gonna cost ya...

Just an idea, really...

Better would a number in brackets for the ship and an explanation that this is what the insurance will be.

Totally against any free insurance, under any circumstances. ��

It's not a bad idea, but isn't the insurance cost included in the cost of the ship, and the rebuy cost is based upon a kind of "policy excess" system?

It's all a bit simple and crazy. Real Life insurance bases a lot of stuff upon risk. It would be kinda nice if you had a system where if you didn't claim for a month you got a 4% rebuy cost instead, then 3% after 3 months. Maybe also take into account the total cost of repairs over that time to assess your damage risk?

But no more insurance threads.

I'd vote no. Weighing the risk/reward is all on the individual. When I progressed through ships I frequently bought too soon and ran the risk of losing everything.

However I didn't crash and ended up making money quicker than I would have been able to by taking that risk.

*Edit* I see you meant 1st insurance claim to be free, while your title suggests otherwise.
What happens to the insurance costs if you buy all the upgrades? These can easily double/triple the value of your ship.
