First look at the new defense turrets coming in Update 7

already had active turrets in a bugged gcz once(it was during patch 4 or 5), so i doubt this is a new addition that took too much dev time.
most likely been there from the start, only bugged

I think it's logical enough to fix what you have before adding more potential bugs on top of it.
No no no, first they add the CZ turrets (not working as intended or outright broken), then they get refactored in Update 8, which also adds new content, which will get fixed in Update 9...

Good stuff, though I'd like to know the effective range of these turrets. If I were engaging in this content, I'd be circle strafing a dumbfire T10 from ~5.5km. I have a hard time seeing these turrets being an issue. Hopefully they implement some LR Laser turrets as well.

Curious about this... I did my first conflict zone a couple of days ago and had a blast! Don't usually play with other folks, so the strategy aspect of disabling turrets on the ground might be lost on me unless I need to do this to get reinforcements; in which case, I hope my AI opponents need to do the same. Not entirely sure about the "temporarily disable" aspect of it. We'll see! Sounds like a positive push towards more dynamic FPS gameplay.

The ideal solution would be a large, slow turning turret that fires high damage, high-velocity shotgun rounds.

In which case, being far away would actually be detrimental, as the turret would need to turn less to keep you on target.

The shotgun aspect would mean that it would do high damage to large ships, but proportionately lower damage to smaller ships, keeping things in balance, and the slow turning rate would force ships closer to the ground, making the ground experience more intense, rather than watching battles high above the battlefield.

So, if you want to strafe the battlefield with the turrets still operational, you would be best to do so in a small, fast ship, capable of maneuvering in close at high speeds, and small enough to take less damage at long range.

True, but I think the more salient point here is that the way FDev continually breaks things (whether by DLC launches or Patches) is pretty unique to themselves. Other games do sometimes have regressions in patches but nowhere near this severity.
Can't argue with that, unfortunately ;(
