First Mission - Chips and Freeport, What Did I Do Wrong?

First mission outside the tutorials.

So I accepted a mission to deliver security chips to Freeport. I fly to Freeport, dock....and now what? Was I supposed to pick up the chips from the origin because I have nothing in my cargo. The missing showed up in my transactions panel when I got there but there was seemingly no way to contact the buyer or actually 'transact' a deal.

What did I do wrong?

I am pretty sure once you accept the mission the items to be delivered are automatically loaded into your cargo.
Once you reach your destination go back to the "Bulletin" board and you should see the mission you accepted at the top of the page - click on it.
Then accept to "Give Cargo".

Usually the mission is completed by going to the bulletin board at the destination and you'll find the mission at the top ready to be clicked on and completed

some missions require you to go and buy the goods first (those missions tend to pay more to compensate the cost)

Some missions from bulletin board don't put anything in your cargo either but as someone above said you take missions from bullying board and you turn them in their bulletin board as well.

Exactly.....delivery missions will supply the goods to deliver, aquireing missions will require you to buy and fetch the goods, often from a different system. So you must deduct the price of what you are required to deliver from the overall credits paid for a job if you have to pay from them.
So if one system wants only 10 gold bars delivered, but is paying 100.000 credits for you to go and buy and deliver them, then you will only make 30 to 40 thousand because of the price of buying the gold from your own credits first chap. Plus gold and some rare items are often sold in very small numbers in each system, so you may have to go to 2 or 3 mining systems to get 10 gold bars together.
Always factor in the price of goods you have to buy first and then deliver by looking at the ''Galactic price'' of those goods at any system, to first check if it worth actually doing the job in the first place Shadowplay.

Well, OP clearly states, that he had to fly TO Freeport. My bet is that was a usual delivery mission and the timer run out, and the chips are actually in his cargo hold, marked as stolen (they wotn show in the commodity market list, you have to sell them at balck market- in contacts). Check if you have any fines (in the transaction tab on the left display). If you do, it means you didnt meet the mission deadline.

Thank you all for the responses. Raf, don't believe the timer had run out. I had 12 minutes left when I docked and was scrambling around trying to figure out what I needed to do! I did not check the bulletin board tho so that could have been the problem.
