So, today I sought out a Neutron Star to see about this concept of surfing the beams that come off those fast rotating little balls of Quantum Nastiness... I've always wanted to be a Pulsar Surfer, but I've heard lots of horror stories about people dropping right into the jet and getting fried.. but then, my current ship is a cheap, expendable Adder, and I'm only 2700LYs from Sol anyhow.. so now's a good time to test it out!..
I was very nervous during the Witch Space jump, but as soon as I emerge I see those brilliant beams stretching across my field of view, I have come out of Witch Space perpendicular to the beams, thank you, NavCom!..
I stop to watch the spectacle for a while.. it sure looks spectacular, no more coming out of a jump and wondering "so where's the star, then?".. the beams are very noticable.
Some time later, I approach the star slowly, at 0.2LS I turn away from it, into one of the beams.. and into the blue I go!.. Flight controls sem fine at first, the ship is bouncing about a bit, but nothing severe. It seems fairly straightforward. I got messages from the ships computer about the FSD operating out of its comfort zone, but I could not see any indication about supercharging progress.. so I decided to go deeper into the beam...
I'm not sure if this was a good idea, the ship started spinning in a very, very disorienting way.. I got worried and tried to aim for the darkest spot in all the blue around me, and floored the FSD... seconds later I exited the beam, and a quick check on my right hand panel indicated no noticable module damage, (most were allready in the mid-90s, and they were still there... and, most impressively, my Adder's jump range is now 118LYs!
Must be careful not to jump into some system right above me out here where the Galaxy is thin... if you Pulsar Surf yourself into a system without a Neutron Star that is over your jump range distant from any other system... then not even CMDR Chiggy can save you!...
