Hello,
I love exploring new planets and moons in Elite but sometimes Id love to know if I'm the first one to ever land on the surface. I think it would be a great addition if the first commander to land on a planet had their name and other details stored on a point of interest in the exact location of their landing. I think this would be a great way to add a little bit of unpredictable persistence to the galaxy. Maybe even let them add a sentence of two! I think with most things in the simulation being randomly generated by a computer it lacks a certain human randomness.
On the topic of persistence id also love to see some way for players to be able to add to the physical structure of the galaxy in general. I understand that all this stuff must reside in some giant database that has to be loaded when you drop into a system but it would be great to see unpredictable physical things that are persistent when landing on planets.
Another idea that I had was regarding NPC interdictions. Why couldn't NPC actually be a real player? Neither of the real players need to know its a real player rather the background simlulation matches you up with someone on the other side of the galaxy automagically. The simulation finds 2 online players intradicts them, and if successful pits you against one another. The NPC's keep their own names and neither player ever knows who the other player is. That way you get the smarts of a real pilot rather than an NPC. An anonymous unpredictable NPC with a human brain!
