First play since update 12....Bindings gone, can't be restored.

Why FDEV? WHY?

I try SO HARD to stick up for you and then stuff like this happens. My bindings are reset, I have a backup bindings file 4.0 (whatever that means? I just want to play to game not be some type of programmer or something yet I have to get in to all of this....)..... Putting the backups in there has no effect. So instead of having fun cool leisure time with my favourite game, I'm typing this because I just cannot be bothered to go through every single control and try and sort it out.

UNFUN.

Not FDEV's fault. It was something to do with USB port.

** EDIT **

Story not quite complete.....

My "Custom" bindings were not showing up. I couldn't select "Custom" from the presets. Even though it was there in the bindings file. Instead all I could pick were "Saitek X56". I tried pasting the back up file, I tried pasting text from back up file, I tried renaming the Custom part. None of it worked.

I did fix it in the end and get my old bindings back - and this is why I've edited this OP in case anyone else has similar issue. I selected "X56 Saitek" preset for each of the four control sets (general, ship, SRV, foot) - doesn't really matter what you pick though - then for each of the four sets I changed one setting so that it became "Custom" instead of "Saitek X56". I exited to desktop, and then put my own custom bindings file in the FD binding folder replacing the one that had just been created and HEY PRESTO I'M A HACKER. Or something. It all worked fine and my old bindings are now back.

Read the "BindingLoadingErrors.log

Bindings will not load if hardware defined is missing

EDIT: Nevermind :)

this thread has some useful info in it

It may be news to some, but all other possible issues aside, any port can become oxidized or otherwise dirty.
I use a usb3 extender and contact cleaner and compressed air to clean my usb ports.

I live in a area high in H2S, so silver and gold get tainted badly very quickly around here.
My experience in the past 30 years is I have to clean or replace anything with connectors inside my pc at least every 2 years.
This is most noticeable on video cards. for me at least.

usb ports are no different, plus, if you use flash drives, its easy to end up with fuzz and hair, etc.. in the connection.
and ofc dust bunnies don't just stop because ooo, its a port.. they float where they float.

Many years ago we pointed out that a more prominent bindings warning due to missing controllers would be good. But it's never been implemented. The binding system is just not very good. The system microsoft flight simulator uses with bindings per controller is much better imho

Yeah, it could do with the system the average flight or racing game tends to have, but a simple warning would be an easy win.

USB Port - been there :(

Outrageous that you can't play this game without your controllers plugged in 😡
Outrageous that the game still causes issues with binding on every new update. That could have been fixed a long time ago. I mean, how hard can it be for the software to back up the bindings file, and restore it after messing around? Instead you have threads like this, again and again.

For the record. I backed up my bindings before U12, but couldn't make them work (didn't try another USB port). Then I spent a day reprogramming all the settings. And yes, my HOTAS was plugged in ;)
