First Rebuy

So it happened. I got blown the hell up.

I've been doing assassination missions for Cama Natural & Co in some of the systems not far out from the horizons starter system. So far its been easy money, about 150K per mission, and no trouble from any kind of law. This last time thoough I got an assault warning as soon as I attacked the target. I'm pretty sure he had a wanted status, but whatever. The target was half dead when a FED showed up. I'd beefed up the shields on the Eagle I've bought so I was able to shrug off the hits for a while but got distracted and the target was making a run for it with only 15% health left. Managed to get back in range and kill him at I think 1.7km, but by then the fed was laying into me and I barely had time to turn around to try and fire on the him before I was destroyed.

Total rebuy value was about 15000, but thats barely a bother at the moment. With that last assassination contract done I've got over half a million. Gonna get maybe another 200k in the bank and then look at buying and upgrading a Cobra MKIII, or maybe a Viper MKIV

The sun has been my enemy. I think it might be either a bug or serious lag, because my ship's heat jumps from 64% to 120% "instantly" in a stuttery sort of way. I've almost bought the farm (and a new ship) fuel scooping multiple times because of this. I've also learned not to jump back into supercruise if this happens, as that also causes heat to jump into the red and components to die. This doesn't happen if you hyperspace away from the sun, however. I do hope Frontier fixes this (once Ed Lewis dies a few times from fuel scooping, I'm sure they will).

ps - I'm using proper procedures to scoop (I'm not nose-diving into the sun at max warp). Like I said, there's a graphical "stutter" at the heart of this issue.

Do you have a video of this? Would like to see it. If it is a bug, you might post the vid in the bug report forums.

If it happens again, I'll try that. At the time I was a bit "stressed" - one of the many things that got destroyed was my canopy, and I just barely made it back to a station alive (first high-speed landing in ED). Since then, I've been more timid in my fuel scooping - I scoop at a lower rate and pretty much ignore the heat bar.

Do you have the orbit lines on? If not put it back on for scooping (i have keybind of X+LB+RB to Toggle the lines on or off).

If they are already on, keep the star's orbit line away from the centre of your screen as you will crash and burn. If you do get pulled out of supercruise, wait for proper heat cooldown before trying supercruise exit to get your escape vector. When you are lined up with the escape vector, switch stop the fsd, wait for cooldown again but keep ship at full speed. Only when you are back at full speed and as cool as possible, start the supercruise escape again. Leave at full speed in supercruise until you are safe distance.

If you carry heatsinks you can just pop one when it gets too hot and escape easily without all that faff though.

When scooping, if it gets over 80 heat, start to move away from the star until the temp drops.

Switching the FSD on when you're scooping will cause runaway heat-up most of the time (even look in normal cases - heat will go up when you start FSD charging, also if you don't align to target promptly).

Only try and hyperspace once not scooping (though you can start the jump as soon as the scoop disengages).

The heat jumping from 60 -> 120 shouldn't ever happen, a vid would deffo help work out what's happening (as you say, in that situation things are stressful :) )

Apologies OP - you have been hijacked! Need to watch out if the ships you shoot are wanted, if not then you'll get wanted (maybe invest in a Kill Warrant Scanner?)

Cheers man. The only K Warrant scanner I've seen so far was 130 000 space bucks, which would so far be the single most expensive piece of equipment I've purchased, and that's even after spending about 200K on the eagle.

Played a day and half now fully upgraded my starter sidewinder and still liking this ship. I will upgrade but for now I want to get a hang of the PS4 controller. I am use to the HOTAS on my PC and VR headset so this is like learning the game all over again for me. Still its nice to sit in a big comfy chair on a 40" screen playing one of my favourite games.

Done a few assassination missions as well in the Sidewinder and oh boy the npcs are easy at harmless level, I had forgotten as to how easy they really are. Even flying a little Sidewinder.
