First step but a long wait

I just bought myself a Samsung Odyssey as my first venture into VR but being in the UK I'll have to wait a week or two for it to arrive.

After debating back and forth over which system to go for with the type of games I play (ED and Project Cars 2) the Odyssey's simplicity, one cable (....well, until the end of the cable at least) no sensors and the boost in resolution was enough to make me plump for a U.S. import. Even with any potential hassle should a return or future issue arise.

I would have gone for a cheapie Lenovo Explorer had I had the choice but with an IPD of nearly 70 that was out of the question and the choices were limited within my budget, my systems specs and the specs/requirements I would wish for from my HMD.

I'm running a 1070 8Gb on a i7 7600K with 16Gb all standard with no overclocking so I hope the WMR and higher res all work well with what I have.

This would be a completely pointless post beyond a "Yay! Me" type of nonsense except I'd love to hear opinions from anyone with the Odyssey (frankly either the MkI or + ) and certainly if anyone has any decent advice on settings to get started with as I'm pretty sure I read somewhere it arrives set at a low end setting somewhere.......yeah, I'm going to have to get to grips with some new jargon.

I have close to the same setup : I7-4820k, GTX-1070, 32gig memory .

Works pretty well. I am sure I could spend some time fine tuning, but it works great for right now. You should have no problems.

WMR beach house is cool. 360 movie demos are really cool.

ED is awesome ! Flying thru a HazRES, dodging fire, lining up shots, zipping around giant asteroids.. Fork ing sweet !

You've managed to make me feel both good and bad. Good because I'm already pretty pumped to be getting into VR but reading someone with similar specs is loving it is very reassuring. Bad? Bad because I've got to wait and I don't really want to, that said it may arrive around the same time as we get the big update running live.

Did you have any issues getting up and running? Although I'm specifically interested with regard to Cliff House and ED. I've read various things about avoiding Cliff House entirely to keep from running too many applications and because its at best an extra layer and at worst a real pain to run ED through.

Thanks

I had two issues :

1: The USB driver had to be swapped to a MS driver. Why ? Who knows... Only Redmond

2: Figuring out how to enable the HMD in Elite.. It's a hidden drop down menu for 3D.. look for the little triangle/arrow. That one took longer then the USB issue.

I keep the cliffhouse running, as well as SteamVR ( and I bought direct from Frontier, not Steam ). No issues. But I tend to keep my system very lean, so your mileage may vary.
