First time DK2 experience

First of all thank you all for making the posts about how to setup Elite/DK2 to get this thing running smoothly. My first initial impression sitting in the Asp cockpit was "Wow! This thing is huge!". Gotta say I did not expect it to be that big. Even though I have watched videos of people saying how big they are, you just don't know until you actually try it for yourself. After flying around for a while, the "wow" factor kind of went away and I was getting used to it. That was until I went to an ice belt....
Holy crap! I don't think that is ever going to get old flying around those. The sense of size and scale of the asteroids is amazing. Truly breath taking.
Anyway, I just wanted to voice how impressed I am with this game in the Rift. Between this game and Alien Isolation(which I almost threw the Rift off my head I was so scared), I am going to be having a lot of fun this weekend.

While I'm utterly beside myself with anticipation on purchasing a retail VR setup when they're available, the one reservation that I have is that I don't have legit binocular vision - I have a strabismus (lazy eye), which may render the whole experience futile.

I'm hoping that the opportunity to try-before-you-buy will eventuate.

I wonder if other people out there with visual problems have had success with the Oculus Rift - i.e. wearing corrective lenses and the such?

I know what you feel - been in the rift for a week and i am gobsmacked. Trouble is cant get on it, each evening my friends are coming round to try it!

I love to read these kind of threads but tbh I didn't think I would be reading many more until the Vive & CV1 are finally released. Congrats for taking the step into a BIGGER universe

I've recently started using a DK2 also and the difference between VR and monitor is just incredible. One thing I would also recommend if you have the system power for it is to use super-sampling or preferably Nvidia Dynamic Super Resolution (GTX 9 series) as this creates an experience with visual clarity that to my eyes approaches that of a monitor. I use DSR now (not even full x4, i think i'm running x2.25) with some tinkering to the graphics settings also and a slight bump to GPU speed with msi afterburner but i was blown away by how clear things are with this setup

Seconded CMDR Burnes.. Nvidias DSR works wonders with this game.. i run 1.5x and resolution of depth is greater too as well as x,y.
With distant objects if there was only one pixel difference between images now there can be half-pixel difference/sub-pixel difference which is far better.. :)

Where are you based?

There may be a DK2 owner nearby - and I am sure they would be happy to let someone try it for the first time?

If you have an issue with the DK2, it is highly likely you may have a problem with the CV1..... :(

Nosh

Yep. I had lazy eye as a kid and had surgery in the 80s with the result that I am one eye dominant and cannot see stereskopic 3D...doesnt matter in the rift. It is not just a 3d screen in your face but the whole experience is the same as in RL . People who never tried it allways compare to 3D television or cinema and that could be more wrong imho. The magic is in the head tracking, at least for us visually impaired. ;)

Another thought: I know real life as I experience it. VR lets you experience computer worlds the same way you experience reality.

I don't have a headset yet (waiting on retails), but I see that a lot as well. Comparing a 3d television to a VR headset. Its the difference between looking outside through a window at a distance (tv distance), versus actually being outside.

I have been away from E D for a few months but back playing again. I can't wait for the release of the retail version of the Oculus Rift in the New Year.

I figure I've got 4 or 5 months to explain to my wife exactly why it was necessary to spend £xxx on it!

No need to explain anything. Just pop the VR helmet on her head. When you get a VR headset you will spend quite a bit of time chasing people, capturing them, and forcing them to wear the helmet.

So I just jumped into my first close trinary system with the rift and once again I was awestruck. I think I sat there for about 5+ min just staring. I fear I will never be able to go back to playing this without the rift. I know its cliche but this pretty much summed up my experience:

I had the same operation in 1981 and can not see stereoscopic 3D. No problems in VR. It works perfectly. The only hurdle may be eye tracking but that's a few generations of VR away yet.
