Hardware & Technical First time gaming PC build

Evening all. I'd been toying with the idea of building a gaming PC for a while but I had yet to see that one game to provide a final push and justification (in my head) for the outlay. Well Elite: D is that game and I have on order the components for what I hope will be an adequate setup to run ED well. As I mention this will be my first attempt at building a gaming rig so I'd welcome your collective thoughts on the selected components and any advice you may have to help a newbie avoid some of the building pitfalls :D

Here's what I've ordered:

CPU: AMD FX 8320 Black Edition 8 Core
MOBO: Gigabyte GA-970-UD3P AMD Socket AM3+ Motherboard
GFX: ASUS GeForce GTX 760
RAM: Corsair Memory Vengeance Blue Low Profile 8GB (2 x 4GB)
SSD: Samsung 840 EVO 250GB
HDD: Western Digital WD10JPVX Blue 1TB
DVD: Samsung SH-224DB/RSMS 24x DVD-R
Sound: ASUS Xonar Essence STX PCI-E
PSU: Corsair CP-9020015-UK CX 750W 80+ Bronze
Case: Zalman Z9-U3 Mid Tower

...and awaiting next pay day for the rest:

Either an AOC 23" IPS or Acer 27" LED (not sure)
Saitek X52 Pro

I think that's about it. Well, that's what I can get away with without the Mrs demanding a holiday! :D:D

Cheers

Jon

Looks pretty solid to me! I especially like your tower!

I built a PC for myself and it was a lot of fun and less complicated than I thought it would be. I'm not an expert or anything but I know my fair share of PC knowledge and I enjoyed building it. I hope you have fun doing the same.

Thanks :) I'm certainly looking forward to having a go at building, should be interesting. Whether or not I'm any good at the game once the rig is built is yet to be seen. Haha.

Evening all :)

Well tomorrow is the day that the bulk of my components arrive after switching supplier following a disastrous first attempt at ordering with a well known supplier who shall remain nameless. That's another story though.

I have hit a snag however when it comes to choosing a suitable monitor. I'm fairly new to all this and remaining budget kind of limits me a little so I'm just a bit unsure about sizes and resolution. With around £200 to spend I think I am pretty much limited to the lower end of the 27" & 1080p range. I just wonder whether I should wait a while longer, save some more and make the jump to 1440? Are there any out there running ED on a 27" 1080p that could perhaps advise on image quality?

Appreciate your help.

Cheers

Jon.

I run ED on my Samsung S27A950D monitor (1920x1080 , 120Hz)

I have no problems whatsoever regarding image quality , for me the 120Hz was more of a factor than 1440p resolution since I often play first person games and want more fps.
But nowadays a Gsync or Freesync monitor might be the thing to opt for.

For me , this monitor will serve me for quite some more time before I go for a Gsync 1440p monitor.

Anyway for you , with a 760 card , I would advise to buy a cheap 1920x screen for now and go for Gsync/Freesync monitors in a couple of years when those are more widespread.

I would definitely buy a Freesync monitor now, without question. Obviously you'll need an AMD card also, but I'd go with that and an Intel CPU anyway if building a new PC.
