first time OR user, first timers problems.

First off i would like to thank all of you guys who took the time to offer advice and help.

Now for the best bit.
last night i had the best gaming experience of my 47 years.
I asked my son to install Elite onto his system, hookup the OR and come to the forum and follow the setup guides.
I arrived home from work to find a fully functioning OR with ED running.:D
Wow, is all i can say the immersion into the game is fantastic, dog fighting seemed so much easier because you can follow the the ship your fighting with your head movement.
It really was a fantastic experience, i even just sat in an asteroid field with everything powered down and just looked around for a while.
I still have the dilema of the laptop and what isn't quite working but for now my son is barred from his computer in the evenings.

The only downside is that i have to start all over again :eek:.

I'd start the game all over again if I could have that feeling of trying the Rift for the first time all over again. I'm having that moment vicariously through your post. <grin>

My idea would be to un-install what you did on your laptop, give it to your son and go to work and come home to a working ED laptop :D

Ok on a serious note have you tried it with a different graphic driver version for your laptop ?
I remember a particular Nvidia driver breaking ED with the rift, although I appreciate your running a AMD chip but it might be worth a try

Hey Karnath.

Yup afraid so bud, i've tried installing new graphics drivers rolling back drivers and i'm still no nearer.
I can now play it on my sons desktop but i want to, no i need to get it working on my laptop. It's become personal between me and the laptop.:eek:
So, to date i have downloaded a shed load of demos, the ones i have downloaded that have a small 164kb exe file call run directly from rift work no problem so i know the laptop is capable of running it.
I've looked online google etc to see if there are other cases of this and some similar issues but nothing quite the same.

I can start the game and it comes through the OR no problems but i can see 2 start screens and they are horizontal even though i have portrait selected for it.
I am obviously missing something but for the life of me i can't think what it is.:S
