First time out

Hey CMDR's today i decided to take the plunge into exploration, it was only a mere 567 lightyears, but big for someone who's never left the bubble.
My target was betelgeuze, I was told it was a nice spot for a first time out and they were not wrong. A massive star within the constellation of Orion, our ninth brightest star in our sky (I'm not suprised why)

I kitted out a Cobra MK3 and headed out from Eravate into the unknown.

600ly this time, 6,000 the next and by trip 3 you'll be thinking 'it's only another 5,000 to get on the 65k list and, hey, I might as well see Beagle Point'...

yeah i can't wait to get back to Eravate and head the other way to the center, and the ship did'nt even seem to struggle with it, so im very pleased for my first time out without a hiccup

Aaawww, you mean you didn't go with the sidey build? :(

Actually my current sidey is my third exploration ship. My first was a cobra mk3...excellent vessel. My second was a dbe...also great.

Hehe, I always advise Betelgeuse as a place to go for players new to exploration. Many argue "all systems are the same" so thats where I send them.

Congratulations and I'm sure you'll be back out again soon!

Other close-by sights worth seeing are Barnards loop (particularly Messier 78) and the Fine Ring nebula.

I still adore the sidey, but for the time being im gonna take the cobra out then after i've got some experience im gonna give it another go, how do you not run out of fuel, i kept running into brown dwarfs, almost lost my ship within 20 jumps out lol?

Additionally there's a layer of brown dwarves at height 0 on the co-ordinate system. Most explorers get caught out going to Sagittarius A* and the common advice is to fly at least + or - 500 from the 0 height band.

thanks for the advice i've never known about the layer of dwarves so i'll be sure to watch out for that :)

Third ship???- I thought it was the fourth - how could you forget Grass Hopper 1 (may she rest in peace (or was it pieces)?

Leftover planet debris caught in the stars gravity. Ringed dwarfs are nice, the ringed T-Tauri stars even more so.

And yes, you can mine the asteroids in the rings.

Glad to count you in the ranks of the explorers.....once you catch the bug, it's hard to stay in the bubble. Lately I only come back long enough to sell data, make repairs and plan the next trip.
