Newcomer / Intro first time player stranded at Chamberlain's rest (HIP 97950)

hi there,

I am new to ED and am really excited to start my journey. However when I played last I just made my character, did the tutorials, got my license. then logged off for work. now today when I logged on I found myself 130ly away from Dromi at chamberlain's Rest in HIP 97950. Didn't even have my sidewinder. So naturally I came here and read through some threads and quickly came to the conclusion that I needed to wipe and restart. So that's what I did. Only to find myself still trapped at Chamberlain's Rest. I do have my sidewinder this time though. Is HIP 97950 the new Pilots Federation District? Am I supposed to be starting from here? Does anyone have some tips for starting here? can I even start from out here or should I try to wipe and restart again?

Any and all help is greatly appreciated thank you.

New players start in the starter zone, a special restricted area that only players with no ranks can enter, they are permit locked to prevent experienced players entering the area and ganking new players. New players can leave the starter zone any time, but once they gain any rank they can no longer return. Chamberlain's Rest in HIP 97950 is not in the starter zone so it may be you have inadvertently gained a rank that means you can't go back to Dromi.

Essentially you can start from anywhere, I'm not sure of the reason a wipe didn't put you back into the starter zone, but you don't have to start there, it's just a kindergarten area for new players.

Having checked it appears Para may be right, the Odyssey starter location is Chamberlain's Rest, are you starting in Odyssey?

Thank you both, much faster response then I was expecting. I am indeed playing in Odyssey. So guess I'm starting from HIP97950. :( I was kinda looking forward to monkeying around worry free in the kindygarten zone.

Thanks again

You could of course start the Horizons option and see if that plops you down in the noob-zone - or - check your permits list in the right-hand UI panels to see if you have the Pilots Federation Administration Permit - fly to the zone. More drastically - do a "clear save" and start again in Horizons. (I do clear saves often, it isn't hard.)

Wipe your start again and select Horizons from the launcher to start where you did previously. Instead of going direct to Dromi with the starter mission, sell your shields and weapons to get a bit more jump range, then go to Chambo and scan all the planets there with the FSS. It's a big system and there are some reasonable value planets. Refuel at the station in Chambo, then go to Dromi to complete your starter mission. In Dromi, sell the astronomical data and complete the delivery mission, which will give you 80k instead of 10k. Now you can buy back your gimballed pulse lasers and shields, and you can upgrade all your other modules to D-class for a bit more speed and jump range.

Go to the high resource extraction site in Dromi, which you'll see on your nav panel as soon as you leave the system. Go there and shoot any ship that the police are already shooting. The enemy ships will not shoot back at you, so it's very safe. There are two exceptions. Do not shoot at an Anaconda or Gunship until they reach about 20% hull and make sure you put 4 pips to shields first. Alternatively, you can check on the external panel target tab whether they're carrying a fighter. If there's no fighter, you can shoot straight away. After 40 mins or so, you will have about 5 mil in bounty vouches to cash in.

Next you buy a T6 and head off to Robigo to do the sightseeing missions, or to Hyades Sector DB-X d1-112 to mine platinum in the first planet, or do "road to riched" planet scanning, or you can carry on with the high RES in Dromi until you get 12 mil for a Vulture and go to Ngalinn to make your fortune doing the pirate massacre missions.

Whatever of those options you take, by the end of the week, you'll be a long way past where you were before the great reset. A billionaire by Sunday is feasible.

Alternatively, you can bpretend that you're a loser and stay in the noob zone too scared of the big wide universe making hardly any progress.

Any questions, just ask.

Odyssey is more or less a separate game - like an add-on. It can be quite confusing. You can do it any time, but I wouldn't recommend anybody to start in it unless you only want to do the on-foot stuff. You keep all your money, rep, ships and materials from Horizons, so you can switch between them any time you want.

Still got the permit. All my levels tell me im a helpless pilot still. not even a shred of xp. How would I switch over to Horizons?

On the launcher - select the Horizons option

wow thats a lot of very useful info and tips, Thank you so much! took a screenshot to find it easily later. And I mean I was pretending to be 12 again but I guess loser works too jkjk:p

oh hell yeah please do. you have a YT channel i can sub too?
My Youtube channel is Hugh Jardon. The videos are all walkthroughs, so longer than most, but loads of essential detail that will generally help you in the game.
This one takes you through most of what I described above.

You don't have to follow the entire path. If you like the combat, you can switch to my Combat for Beginners series, then do the massacre missions in my second to last vid.

This one takes you through all stages of laser mining. I mine painite in the vid, which has been nerfed, so instead go to first planet in the same system I show and mine platinum in the rings of the first planet in the system:

I would have liked to have made a vid of the latest fastest way to make a billion, but since the last update, I haven't been able to logon to any of my accounts on my main computer that I record on. FD are really slow in trying to get me going again - very frustrating. It's basically go straight to Chambo like in my last beginners series, scan the planets then head towards Ngalinn to do what's in my 2nd to last vid about pirate massacre missions. As soon as you've done 20Ly from Chambo, sell the data and get a fuel scoop to make the rest of the trip easy. I made a vid on how to fuel scoop somewhere. Do one trip in the Sidewinder using the police to help you, like I describe in part 1 of the combat series, then go buy a Vulture and give the pirates hell while you make billions.

Wow, guys, this was exactly what I was looking for. Big thanks to the OP (who sounded like they were in the same position as me) and the folks who offered answers. I also found your videos helpful Hugh!!!
