General / Off-Topic First time with both RCTW + PC (What is it like for a newbie?)

RollerCoaster Tycoon World vs Planet Coaster
What is it like to play the games for the first time without hardly any theme park game experience?
I wanted to know what it was like to play these games for the first time so I sat my girlfriend down with both games and set her a few tasks. Before she played I showed her very quickly how to build coasters on each game as I had showed her this briefly on Planet Coaster.
___

1 Coaster
2 Flat Rides
2 Shops
1 Lake
2 Janitors
2 Entertainers
Any Decorative Items
Look at the guests/ graphics of each game

___

RollerCoaster Tycoon World:

Chris - What did you think about the game?
Charlotte - I don't know. It was good. It took long to load. I didn't like how the people kept vanishing and the mascots we're rubbish.
Chris - What about the look of the game?
Charlotte - I think the loading screen makes you think the graphics are going to be better than they are.
Chris - How about the animation?
Charlotte - The animation was not good,
Chris - Why?
Charlotte - The way the people are running is unrealistic.
Chris - And what about the ride animation?
Charlotte - I don't know if you can do it, but I wanted to ride them.
Chris - You can, the large camera button on the ride menu panel.
Charlotte - I couldn't really hear people having fun or smiling, they all just kept needing a wee.
Chris- What about the audio?
Charlotte - There was just someone crying in my ear all the time! It wouldn't tell me where.
Chris- Did you have fun?
Charlotte - I did at the start but then it's pretty repetitive. Even though there was toilets they still wanted toilets, maybe I'll make a park of all toilets.
Chris - The coaster builder?
Charlotte - That little pointy thing was doing my head in! And the paths, just kept going where I didn't want them to go.
Chris - Would you recommend it to anyone?
Charlotte - Probably not, I know it's only early access but I think it could have been better even for that. I think it lures you in and you get there and it's not very good.
Chris - Favourite part?
Charlotte - The people vanishing, it made me laugh, but it's not a good thing it happens.
Chris - Oh dear... and the worst?
Charlotte - I have to say the entertainer people, they just walked around, not acting like an alien or a panda bear. No interaction. They followed paths,
they wasn't free roaming.

Chris - Marks out of 10?
Charlotte - Can you ask me this after I've played the other one, it's not high but I need something to compare it against.
Chris - That's fair... EDIT: Okay you've played both. The verdict out of 10?
Charlotte - 4, Dunno, just kinda mashed my brain. At the end of that half an hour I was bored, didn't wanna play anymore.

Planet Coaster:

Chris - What did you think about the game?
Charlotte - The game was great.
Chris - Watching you, you seemed to have issues and I had to tell you some things to do.
Charlotte - Only cause it was my first time, I think games like that you need to play a few times to see where things are, because there is so much in it.
Chris - Is that not the same with RCTW?
Charlotte - Yeah, I asked you things but you didn't tell me
Chris - You got them in time though on RCT?
Charlotte - I'm just impatient.
Chris - What about the look of the game?
Charlotte - I think the look of the game is good.
Chris - How about the animation?
Charlotte - The animation is really good, the people, the way that they were watching the entertainers, they way they were walking and talking!
Chris - And what about the ride animation, how did the rides look?
Charlotte - The rides look good, like the tea cups in real life they go different speed.
Chris - What about the audio?
Charlotte - I liked the audio and how you zoomed in to the shops and they were playing music and you can hear coaster king and the pirates gun going off, and them talking! I like them talking, the guests that is.
Chris - Did you have fun?
Charlotte - Yeah I didn't wanna stop playing! Because everything is so realistic, it's like it was my first time and it's a game you want to learn how to play.
Chris - The coaster builder?
Charlotte - It was easier than RCT but the mouse went one way and the track went the other way.
Chris - Would you recommend it to anyone?
Charlotte - Yah.
Chris - Favourite part?
Charlotte - CHIEF BEEF!!!! I think all the entertainment people, they way they moved, in RCTW they all looked the same, the way coaster king was walking was different to Gulpee
because they are different.

Chris - and the worst?
Charlotte- Hard question. The queues, I needed your help but it was because I haven't played before. Other games exits just pop up. I think I put shops to close together.
Chris - Marks out of 10?
Charlotte - 8/10. Graphics were good, music was good, I think it's just a good game. I only had 30 mins to play but I could have played more.

Nice to read your review interview. [happy]

Afterwards, do you consider her test play with each game equal?
Did you assist hear in equal amount for the two games? That would tell a lot of the games UI and tools if one were harder than the other.

I wonder what would happen if she didn't know the names of the games, would she think that Planet Coaster is RollerCoaster Tycoon World and vice versa? But I do have to agree with your girlfriend.

Nice test you did there! Though the results really don't surprise me for some reason... [cool]

It's nice to see the perspective of someone neutral, it just goes to show how much a passionate dev team can help shape a game.

This bit made me laugh...

Wouldn't catch me doing that...

I think she found PC's UI more confusing, linking a queue and that. I helped her as little as possible, she had to ask me how to link queues and rotate on PC.

It was interesting!

All the toliets!

BZ Sawyer for doing that - it sort of sums up the current state of play (no pun intended).

While most involved with either/both games would most likely come to something similar, it is very interesting that a 'noob' to both franchises would find those results in just 30 minutes.

Clearly your gf is just a "pure hater with little to no time in-game" and didn't put quadruple double infinity hours to truly experience RCTW's incredible gameplay!

Well duh. The real game doesn't unlock until after 90+ hours of play! So... you know, one loading screen.

Anyway, this was a great idea Sawyer. I'd love to see video of something like this.... roller coaster simulation game newbies trying one or both games for the first time.

I would actually like to see some reaction vids with people new to both franchises...

Btw, does this mean chris has a gamer gf now? I mean, SURELY she is hooked to the pc playing pc by now...

I dont have Planet Coaster yet (Pre-ordered though!) and when RCTW was released my daughter had a go on it, she absolutely loves RCT3.

Loaded up RCTW and she played it for like 10 mins and I said what do you think. She said "Oh, err, can I go now" . Err yes of course, run, run as far as you can and never look back. Haha.

And we haven't, just looking forward to PC.

Could you at least get a refund?

No unfortunately, I didn't get it through Steam, got it on cdkeys. So thankfully I never paid full price for it.

I load it up every now and again to see if anything is different/fixed and its worse in my opinion than when it came out. Some coasters I did build won't even load anymore so I don't really bother with it anymore.
