PvP Fish In A Barrel (A Griefer's Paradise)

I'm not a griefer, I'm not even a good PvPer, but I can think like one, and here's what I'm thinking:

Thargoid hunters are getting more and more AX weapons. IIRC, AX weapons are pretty weak against human ships. If I wanted to cause some serious "grief", I'd equip a fighting ship (Vulture, FDL, FAS, etc) with standard weapons and go hang out in the Pleiades and have a grand time destroying Conda's and Corvettes that are kitted out to hunt Thargoids. One could even roleplay being a "Thargoid sympathizer".

Has anyone considered this, either from an offensive or defensive stance? Don't worry, despite the temptation, "I'll never turn to the dark side. You've failed, your Harry Potterness. I am a nice guy, like my father before me." I'm just curious, as a fully-kitted AX ship seems mighty vulnerable to anything besides a Thargoid.

They're still kitted for combat though, even if the weapons are weak. Griefers generally need to target non-combat ships to ensure they're not at any risk.

Yes I thought of that. In an anti-Thargoid configured ship I would not engage human ships but jump away ASAP.

You're not, though.

Anybody who's out Thargoid hunting is prepared to lose their ship.

Griefers want to cause, erm, grief.

The most effective, and risk-free, way of doing that is to attack players who don't expect to lose their ships and aren't capable of retaliating.

In short, the galaxy is still full of traders, explorers and people visiting surface POIs which are far more attractive targets for griefers.

Leaving aside the whole argument about what constitutes griefing, I kind of assumed there would already be CMDRs with regular weapons round there looking to interdict other players. Aren't there usually people doing this in any populated part of the game? Two of my ships are at Merope, but I've had so little time to play since 2.4 that I'm only guessing about what's going on out there in Open. Poor me.

I'm somewhat of a Thargoid sympathiser, but not to the extent I'd open fire on other human ships. I've kitted out a search and rescue dropship so I can do my bit in the Pleiades sector while never opening fire on a Thargoid ship.

That being said, I have actually been killed by 2 Thargoid sympathisers before!! Now don't get me wrong, if people who have the same mindset as myself and don't believe the Thargoids are as bad as people say, then I won't try to stop them fighting for their side. What I have an issue with, Is when they target commanders totally at random with no justification.

On both occasions I was interdicted. I notify them that I'm search and rescue (this is suprisingly effective at getting mercy from regular pirates). They give no response, take me out, and then send a message about how the Thargoids will "set me free".

Okay, great, good to know there are others who sympathise with them. I'M PRACTICALLY ON YOUR SIDE!! I would have HOPED that making sure the target is actually a target would be STANDARD PRACTICE!!

Of course the flip side is that the griefers will have to venture into Thargoid-rich space in a ship not equpped to deal with the threat.

Mind you, they can just combat log......
