Fit fuel scoops and explore infinitely they said... 7 red stars in a row [ragequit]

So I decided to move away from the starting systems and make my own way in the galaxy. Seven unusable stars in a row, no station to dock at, I blew up everything I'd worked for. What's the point of even having fuel scoops in the game if the risk is you can't use them, so you must dock at every available station anyway just in case?

I made it all the way to the R CRA Nebula (2k ly away) with jjust the free-eagle and a base fuel scoop. Most systems will tell you at least what the base star is, so you'll know if you have to take a detour to top up your tank on your way. Sounds like you just got unlucky/didn't think to check the system specs before you were neck deep in deep space.

Hmmm another peril to watch out for. Thanks for the warning.

Evidently one needs to be aware of the point of no return...

I bet they didn't say:
"After 3 reds in a row you must carry on jumping into gamble systems and never under any circumstances turn back to refuel and plot a different route."

Bye.

They didn't say it was going to be easy - it is supposed to have some risk :)
.
I would say the trick is to try and manage the risk - figure out your point of no return and make a decision based on that. Do you make that extra jump into the unknown, or do you go back to the last known good refuel star and try a different approach?
.
Doesn't help you now, I know, and I sympathise with your loss - it's painful to lose hours of progress :(
.
Have a break, recharge your batteries and have another go when it all seems less painful :)

It's called risk and knowing your limitations. It's also called a failure state, which most games need.

When you click on a star in the Galaxy map, you see the stellar classifications of the star in that particular system (info tab in the map GUI).
If the stars have TT in their classification, they're unscoopable (T Tauri type stars). Brown Dwarf is the other unscoopable star type (L, T, Y & M6.5 or higher).

You weren't paying attention and got unlucky - learn from the experience and carry on. :)

Sorry, no sympathy for rage quitting when the galaxy map will tell you exactly what class of star you'll be jumping to. Look for main sequence stars and avoid white dwarfs and any other stellar remnants. Don't know what a main sequence star is? Fair enough, spend five minutes in Wikipedia. Should a gamer need to do that kind research? When playing a game which is so reliant on astronomy - yes.

Yes agreed, I thought it was so simple to work out.
Not for the careless then it seems, this travelling and exploration malarky :)

Really, what is it with all these people posting who quit after one mishap or mistake? I'd be embarrassed to post something like this. The game gives you the information so learn to use it.

I'm treating the "ragequit" as an amusing meme now, basically whenever you have any basic complaint about a gameplay system that gets you killed, you need to append "ragequit".

I doubt it's ever meant to be serious...we are mostly grown adults after all!

Think thats bad try jumping 22 times and getting scan dater and a nice bounty and then crashing into the side of the station by miss judging the speed and starting again. Great fun

To be fair, the OP is not the first person to suffer that problem. One of my friends also, rage quit the other day because of similar problems.

ED is very unforgiving with the starter configurations and it can be demoralising to see your hard earned credits and upgrades wasted when this happens.

I once started a similar trip. After 4 jumps without being able to fuel scoop I... simply turned back. And took another route.

I just can't understand why some people are apparently incapable of reflecting on their actions.

It's like they have a voice in their head constantly telling them "NO! It's a game! And it's supposed to make me win and feel good!"

We've all died for a multitude of reasons, but hopefully you learn that lesson and don't repeat it. Experience in games, as in life, is invaluable. Now excuse me I'm just off to stick a fork in the microwave.
