Fix 'Boom Time Delivery' Missions

I accepted a few missions while in a medium sized ship and then accidentally filled up my large sized ship with the mission items for multiple 'Boom time delivery' missions. It was only when I arrived at the delivery station that I realized it had no large pads. I should have paid attention and I accept that. I would be happy to accept my failure and return back to my medium sized ship and carry out the missions individually, but I was unable to. I was forced to abandon missions because I had no way to manage inventory between ships. Please add a way to return mission items back to the source.

Edit: I think the title should have said improve rather than fix. I seem to have upset some people by suggesting they are broken.
To everyone else with constructive feedback I thank you. We have some good solutions. The easiest to implement would be adding 'outpost' to the delivery location in the mission depot screen.

Yet another reason why this game needs a way for players to store cargo outside of the hull of their ship. This is at the top of my want list for new features.

I do agree that there needs to be a way to manage inventory, but I think storage might cause havok to the economy. Having station based storage would allow players to stockpile cargo and drive up demand before selling it back. Having ship based storage would allow players to use ship transfer to move cargo. I think the only way cargo storage could work is if its has limited capacity and duration. And possibly a fee for storage.

All I really need is a way to give back mission cargo temporarily. Essentially just reverse the action of receiving the cargo.

Next time READ THE MISSION before accepting it.

FWIW, if you jet a portion of the cargoes, enough to jump into a medium ship with the remaining cargo, you can still do a partial completion (and cop a fine for the missing cargo). Better result than just abandoning outright.

it'd be nice to be able to move cargo between ships. Not so much store it elsewhere indefinitely though. I've run in to that problem a few times for the same reason, and being able to transfer the cargo back to source then reload to a different ship would be a good feature. but within the constraints of the missions time limit because of reasons others have stated already. Just being able to move it back to the bay then reload it on to another ship would be the fix.

The whole point. He took the mission in a med ship then switched to a big one.
No one else to blame but himself for not reading the mission.
Nothing needs to be fixed to solve the problem.

Am I missing something? Where in the mission description does it tell you the landing pad size of the station? If I was in a large ship then I wouldn't be able to accept the mission and it would tell me my ship is too large.

If I am unable to accept the mission in a large ship, does it make sense that I should be able to accept the cargo from that mission while in a large ship?

Marks it as an outpost. All outposts are medium ship only. This appears in all mission descriptions and can be checked in the transactions tab after accepting.

I don't agree with the idea of storing cargo - issues with the BGS for one thing.

The OP now knows to check the mission destination so they have no actual problem.

There is no problem with "Boom Time Delivery Missions" requiring fixing.

I agree with the OP as I have run into this problem previously.

I too returned to the mission-giving station depot to return the cargo so I could pick it up again in a medium ship.

Only way out was to fail the mission. I think it would make the game better if we could use that lovely minus sign on the “collect items” depot screen on more than the first occasion.

I understand what happened. It's a trap which many people fell into the first time. But preventing things like this can get insanely complex. I mean, the game filters on what your current ship can do.

  • According to the suggestion, it now also has to crosscheck against all your active missions when you switch the ship.
  • As another random example, there are missions where you have to salvage stuff. In space or planetside. So the game now would crosscheck against all your active missions whenever you modify the ship.

It's not hard to come up with more and even weirder examples. Which can also become very complex to crosscheck. And might actually in some cases make it possible to configure your ship to be better suited for a job once you picked the job up.

These guiding rails can become insanely complex, if you want to cover all the bases. So I guess in this specific case it's better to consider it learning experience which every player has to acquire at some time. I very much think the game has other areas (also in terms of new player introduction) which can use a lot of work, which would be much more beneficial to finally address.
