Since some time I noticed Elite was frequently crashing for me on Windows 11. Especially when I alt-tabbed away from the game. Quite often even at the starting animation or in the main menu.
I usually play on Windowed Borderless mode. Then I notoiced that if I switch to Full Screen, and then back to Windowed, the crashes stop.
I dug deeper and finally fixed this. If you're having similar issue, try this:
1. In Start menu search for Settings and navigate to System > Display > Grahics
2. Click on "Change default graphics settings"
3. Disable "Optimisation for windowed games"
This has 100% fixed it for me, I get no crashes whatsoever anymore! If you happen to be using it for other games, you can disable it for Elite specifically too by selecting the application in the list on the Graphics settings page.
