Fix the all group, drop CMDR tag and fill in the blips.....

Ok thread after thread after thread after thread keeps bringing up the Solo/Group/All argument in different ways but always with the same outcome .. To this I will add my opinion on the subject.

I am not a PvP Fan.

I play in the MOBIUS PvE group .. BUT .. I would play in the 'All' group if it wasn't for the possibility of being attacked for the sole reason that I was a real person and not an NPC, if I was attacked by a CMDR because I had valuable cargo or a nice bounty .. fair play .. that would be fantastic .. it would add spice and an added element of excitement to the game which can only make it better.

I do not want to be attacked because I am a hollow blip and might be more of a challenge (you never know :) )

now I do know that this can be a rare occurrence and I also understand the mentality .. A player is more unpredictable than an NPC.

What I am not a fan of is the PvP crowd saying Open play is ours Go play solo/group and then moaning that there is a separation of players and it should be open play only.

I also do not like the PvE/Solo players saying that PvP is griefing.. when only a few could be considered griefers.

There is a BIG place for PvP in this game but in my view for in game reasons .. And all of this could be solved by dropping the CMDR tag and filling every blip so nobody knows who is an NPC or a who's a CMDR .. of course you might be able to tell by the way someone is flying or knowing someones name but I think that the majority of players that want to play the game in open but just don't want to be targeted for being a CMDR would re-join the 'All' group.

Now when this came up months ago, nobody here knew what the game would be like, we do now .. it can be hard to meet up with real players .. the galaxy is humungous.
The added tension of "not knowing" would be great IMO.

The only downside I see is knowing who to communicate with but seeing as I have been contacted once (and that was from my friends list.. i didn't know how to answer sorry CMDR) I don't see that a massive problem.

that's my view and just to add, the fact we can switch between modes will NOT change .. if you want to make the 'Open/All' group better, make it fair for everyone .. not just PvE and not just PvP .. it's open/All for everyone.......

...And think of the children .... not in that way!

Wouldn't that make communications even worse? So the "Hi CMDR, how are you doing today" will be over completly, right?

I do like the idea of not knowing if a ship is flown by a person or an AI but I do worry about comms.

Like I said that is the only issue I see with this, and maybe the old transponder idea could resurface with players wishing to announce their presence as an option ..

So you, as a CMDR, could decide if you want to transmit an IFF ping or not...interesting.

I'm in Mobius's PVE Group too....love that group.

That was the original idea, but it has seemed to have been dropped (like a few things) .. but i really liked the idea .. to be able to transmit your "Player status" at will .. it meant that those after PvP could declare they were players to the world (that should be galaxy ) and other PvP'ers, also anyone looking for communication could also do the same (but it may bring unwanted attention) .

I used to think like you - that NPCs and human players should blend seamlessly. But I really like being able to distinguish the two easily - I find the game more exciting when I see human flying around - I pay more attention. It's of course less "realistic", but I think the current mechanic is just fine.

Yeah, it could've been interesting, in several ways - but it ain't gonna happen!

You are probably right Cody, but it would be interesting to see what the "Transponder" feeling is now, as we know what it would do for the game now as we know what we are playing.

One of the most valid criticisms of ED is that social interactions with other players are underdeveloped. Making players indistinguishable from AI would completely kill that aspect. I would expect FD to improve that area, not shut it down.

I sympathise but I really can't see how in game comms could get any worse. I've never had a reply from a player, apart from one guy who I called on voice comms and he actually picked up. I was so shocked, I could hardly speak!

If i get it right, you want npcs and players to have the same kind of blip, so you can't see who is who, right?

Won't that create more whine topics about people being attacked and figuring it out they were killed by players instead of npcs?

Exactly - they ARE bad right now and as I said I would expect FD to do some work on improving them. Unfortunately if you can no longer identify other players it won't matter how much FD improve the comms. If you can't tell who isn't an AI you won't even try to talk to them.

I have to agree here. I am a pirate, but I don't just randomly kill. I have talked to traders and negotiated cargo, I've blown the cargo hold open on a few, and well, killed a few while trying to pop the cargo hold open. I've had player bounty hunters come after me as well, and that's not something I want hidden. It's very necessary to show the differences between NPCs and PCs.

whilst I understand the comms issue (and i can't see a work around for that), I really cannot see an issue with not knowing the ship you have just interdicted is a 'real boy' (CMDR) or a puppet (NPC) .. surely it would make every encounter a bit more unpredictable .. and as the original proposal on transponders meant that if you wanted to advertise your player status you could .. If it brought more players into the All mode .. even if you didn't know they were players .. surely that would be better than the Solo/Private group scenario we have now .. it wouldn't change what you have now except that that NPC you have just engaged might not be a NPC .. more danger .. more excitement on every encounter ..

Let me put it this way if everyone playing 'All' as it stands decided to advertise there humanity (as it is now) but you also had the unpredictability of "Ghost" CMDR's .. wouldn't that be more exciting?

and it would, In my view, bring the separate communitys together, as there would be no fear of an unprovoked attack for no reason unless that person was playing a psycho .. if the game was this way I would be in 'All' .. but it isn't .. I may be the only one who thinks this .. but I am not alone ... oh wait .. i am .... hello George !

Noooo.......... please leave my blips alone, i love looking at the radar to see if there is anyone human out there.
When i get interdicted i look to see if he is human, if he is then so much more fun.
i like trying to say hi to humans at stations and nav pionts, i have a VA macro set to issue a greetings commander message.
nooo..... i love this. Multi player is borked enough, leave my hollow blips alone.

With a few refinements, it might even have drawn me into open mode! So it goes!

I would love to play this game the way (That I perceive) it should be played .. Only attacking another player for in game reasons (I.e: bounty/cargo) the same as you would an NPC .. if someone is 'Clean' and has no cargo they should not be a target .. I love the MOBIUS group but it does miss the PvP interaction.. I miss that ..

Maybe I should start a new group, doubt any would join ... but it would be nice to play this game the way (I think) it was intended .. only attacking for "In Game" reasons .. that would be fun.

Not a bad idea, although more than happy to play in Mobius to be honest, prefer to see who is human. I think the idea was if you don't transmit IFF then you couldn't recieve it either, which would completely kill the idea of using open for me.

(mod hat off)

I asked Sandro about transponders at the launch party. He still thought it was a good compromise, but as always his job is to choose which finite set of resources to hurl into the infinite chasm of requests. Reading between the lines, I suspect newbie requests will probably get priority in the next few months and these kinds of things will resurface when the average player has met enough other people to have an opinion.
