Fix weapon advice required Vulture

Hi

I am developing my fix weapon skilz.

I find I struggle when one hard point is projectile and the other isnt. If you have 1 MC and 1 laser how do you manage the disconnect?

What do people equip on their Vultures? Twin weapons?

Thanks!

I just put them in different fire groups.

On a ship with more options I'll have, say, Lasers and missiles in one FG, MC's and missiles in a 2nd FG and then a Railgun and missiles in a 3rd FG.
On a ship like the Vulture, that means just having one laser in 1 FG and then one MC in a 2nd FG.

Obviously, you can do more damage if you've got 2 different weapons in the same fire-group but I find it's easier (for me) to just have a standard "system" where all my ships work in a similar way to avoid confusion.

I just use dual pulse lasers. Good shield and hull damage and gimballs make short work of individual modules.

Seriously, I kinda feel like pulse lasers are op. After extensive testing I couldn't find any other alternative viable, except for rails or PA's. I have no idea why anyone even bothers with multi-cannons.

My standard unengineered PvE Vulture has had a fixed beam & gimbaled multi-cannon for a long time.

I use a Beam laser because I found it helped me to shoot fixed, knowing that all I had to do was pull the trigger when my target was centred. I'm still not great with fixed projectile weapons but it's just lack of practice really.

Something I did find early on was that a less twitchy ship helped me to keep a target centred. I'm a better aim with fixed on a Python from longer range than a Vulture for example.

Dual PA master race checking in.

Seriously though, consider PA, Frags, Cannons, or Pulse lasers if consistent time on target/tracking is a big challenge for you. Or practice with multis or beams if you want to improve time on target/tracking. You'll only improve if you grit your teeth and do what you're bad at.

I use a fixed multicannon in primary, and a gimbaled pulse laser in secondary. It works really well, using either or both depending on range, positioning, and target shield status. In general, I fire the pulse as long as there's plenty of weapon power, and fire the multicannon when I think a lot of the shots will hit. Using the multicannon a little less when shields are up will save ammo.

I personally like the fixed weapon being ballistic, rather than the other way around, because you'll be angled more parallel with the target. It's easier to keep following them.

I want to try other weapons like plasmas, but I'm already short enough on power the FSD and fuel scoop have to shut down when I deploy hardpoints. (Want to keep things like shield boosters, and A rated FSD for travel.)

With only two large hard points I'd go with duplicate weapons so as to not confuse the issue seeing how they respond and to improve the skills to use them. Specifically for a Vulture large beams were all that I ever needed to get the job done. For testing fixed the FAS would be more suitable with two large and two medium hard points. Now two sets of weapons can be deployed thus seeing the difference between cannons and frag cannons, plasma accelerators and rail guns etc. Decent maneuverability, fast and a tank hull makes the FAS an excellent fixed weapon testing platform.

I put two efficient PA's of mine.
Provided all shots land it makes mince meat out of NPC FGS, FAS etc. Not had chance to try it on players yet.
Still working up the patience to go material hunting on planets again to get materials for the hull. God I hate bouncing about in that SRV. It moves in low g like a newspaper borne aloft and poltergeisting in a hurricane!

Loving it!

I am all about the grit.

Might give that a go!

Awesome advice, thanks mate! :)

I've tried having mixed weapons on a Vulture, but it doesn't feel right to me.

My Vulture now has twin fixed pulse lasers, both with g5 focused mod and phasing sequence.

I run my Vulture with one Fixed Burst laser and one fixed cannon.
Fire group 1 for the laser, fire group 2 for the cannon.
Works wonders.

I also use dual pulse on my Vulture, but dual fixed OC MC are beasts and let you have 4 pips to sys almost all the time.

Probably better all round than the pulses, if you can hit with them.

With a vulture I just use 2 of the same weapon- either dual pulse lasers or dual multicannons

Its just so much easier to aim when theyre both the same and both fixed
