Convergence of guns (or harmonizing them) is a concept that dates back to WWII. It involves making the fire of multiple (wing-mounted so very separated) guns converge on a single distance from the aircraft.
Why not make this possible in the game? Be it by the player having to manually set their distance (through the functions screen?) or having them converge automatically at the correct distance. (Meaning, they will target the same spot on a ship, no matter if they're 3 meters or 3 kilometers away.)
It'd be distinguished from gimballed by purely and only letting them converge on the 'center dot' point, not moving to compensate for the target moving away from the sight, of course. You still can't hit a target that's half your canopy away from the center.
I feel it'd make fixed weapons far more viable of a choice on ships like the Clipper and Cobra, which have a great deal of distance between (some of) their hardpoints, therefore rewarding players that can keep their target sighted by letting them do more damage, instead of having to rely on the drift in gimballed guns to be kind to them.
