"Fixing" The Assisiation Mission Time limit

Was it really a good idea for Fdev to prevent assassination mission targets from spawning before their timer starts? (see 3.03 patch notes). This is seriously anti-fun. I now take on a mission and then just wait for half an hour for the damn timer to tick down, then go scan a nav beacon? Whatever were you thinking FDEV? Remember in FE2 (where you modeled this mechanic from) you had a Stardreamer time control so you didn't actually have to wait in real time!

I agree. I took one last night, thinking that I had time to do the usual USS search. No USS, so had to wait 40 minutes for the timer to start. This isn't an improvement, in any way.

Ugh... What a truly pointless thing to do. I do wonder who would think it was in any way a good idea to put a time barrier in front of content in a real time game.

As if there isn't enough waiting around in the game already. Very disappointing 'improvement' with so many other things needing attention.

Yep. It's a fix for something that wasn't broken in the first place.

Though maybe it's the usual lazy/clumsy FD fix for those missions where you'd get redirected to another system, to meet a NPC who sent you back to the original one.

Yes, that particular wrinkle was really quite something...

I'm going to assume, and really hope that some of the things that get done to the mission system are down to technical limitations, because if they are real design choices they leave something to be desired.

Don't know why you need a time window that is additional to the overall mission window anyway. Why not just give a window that is " until" calculated on "now". Just one - why make it 24 hours plus another time slot? As I understand missions generally you can hand in a mission any time - no time restriction at all. After all, you are simply asking for payment at that point and so what if it is a day or two before you get around to it? Just say - so-and-so is likely to be found from now until <2 hours time> or some such and just leave it at that.

Grr - missions have been so broken for so long now. Have to wonder at competence and truly I have been a fanboi for a very long time and it hurts me to have to say that.

Needs a meme.

This is the primary reason why I never do these. You really should be able to find the target in the designated system right away. The waiting period is stupid.

Waiting is the new content. Depth. Gameplay. In a word, fun.

Sometimes, I sit and stare at a wall for hours. When I'm done, I know I accomplished something. Oops. It's that time again. They're here to give me my meds.

Funny thing, it does not prevent mission target to spawn ahead of time. You scan nav beacon (ADS doesn't work, presumably due to this "fix"), go to target body, wait for mission USS. It spawns randomly, but you can bet it will spawn before stated period more than a few times.

I think the real issue is that you always could find the target as soon as you had accepted the mission, but now someone had the bright idea of 'fixing' it so that you really do have to wait...

I really cannot fathom why they would think that adds to gameplay.

Oh well, so they didn't even manage to 'fix' it right...

Yeah something is up with the ADS...I've had to log out and login scan and the target locations get updated before the start time. I've dropped into the Nav Beacon a couple of times and have 2 of the targets drop in right after me. Makes it nice and easy, but those trigger itchy Security and Bounty Hunters at the Nav jump in on the action.

I'm still hoping this is a parody thread.

My time. So valued.

See I don't even know if that's intentional or not now lol. Why would the ADS no longer work but the nav beacon does? Oh right, one means I have to drop out of supercruise and then go back into it really close to the star, so I can accelerate like a milk float on my way to the target planet 2k ls away rather than skirting the star on the jump in and honking the system whilst I'm doing it.

Or I can just wait a bit because when I've got in from ten hours at work like today there is nothing, nothing, I want more from a game than for it to book me a meeting.

The same reason they think needing ten million materials to upgrade your ship adds to gameplay.:D

Thanks for that.

Well, I suppose dropping into the Nav Beacon is OK. Means that I can leave the ADS behind.

I simply stopped doing Assassination missions for now.

My dedicated hitman vessel - FDL with four HYS cannons and huge efficient beam - was hit hard by 3.0. The patch broke HYS - to the point it's actually more effective to use Overcharged cannons without any effect! (I've installed Oversized - +5% damage is at least useful)
Now it's ADS. I have to waste my time and scan Nav Beacon.
What's next - eliminating the mission USS so I have to wait for target in supercruise?

Just a proof that it's a bug with ADS, and (presumably) not an intended behavior:

I just took a mission to kill a pirate lord:

Note the target ETA.
This screenshot was taken about 1:58 server time, when I was entering the target body SoI.

About two minutes later (note the server time!):

Inside the mission USS (again, note the time):

I found the guy and killed him half an hour before he was stated to appear.
