Flashback

Hello people,

It's my first post. I downloaded the game yesterday and instantly had flashbacks to when I was 11 years old.

I fired the game up and found it was almost unplayable without a joystick as I did back in 85/86. Whilst I no longer have to wash my dad's car to be able to afford to purchase such items (although I wish life were still that simple) I am thinking about nipping out and getting a

It seems like good value - is this going to be sufficient?

Thanks in advance for any comments that may ensue - I just want to get started!

Is it fairly straight forward to map the buttons etc...?

Thanks

I use a console controller, I'm not sure I can use one of those things but many people do.

Loads of buttons to map and tweaks you can make. It will take you a few hours to get everything the way yo want them. I'm still messing about now trying to improve my set up.

Welcome to ED and the Forums
I use both as I'm running out of buttons but hopefully they will introduce a new bind allowing multi functions to each button

Welcome to the forums.

That is the joystick I use and is perfect for the game.

Mouse+keyboard works pretty good. Should give it a try before going for the stick. Maybe you wont need it after all. ;)

I find the setup very convenient and cheap. :D

Welcome the forum and the game :)

Iam also using that stick. And it suits the need I have in the game :)
Find it comfortable to use, and for the price, its the best you can get.

When you get a hang of the control system, its easy to map it.
There is also support for it ingame as a preset.
So using the preset and then change small things to suit your playstyle.

Hi, I also use that HOTAS, but I would strongly recommend you get voice attack to go with it as it doesn't have enough buttons on the controller for all the commands needed in this game and I like the way voice attack leaves me with my hands firmly on the joystick and throttle ;)

I use a x52 and that one works very well.

I will set up voiceattack in the near future, but I am a bit worried about looking like a total nerd playing computergames with my oversized joystick while shouting at the computer...

Then again, who cares? :D

Nothing wrong with that stick. I would also suggest that you invest in something called Voice Attack. Its only $8 (about £5). It will make your life so much easier if you run out of buttons. To see voice attack in action go to www.twitch.tv\fireytoad
