'Flatten terrain' for objects

Hello,

I recently started playing Planet Zoo and am now facing my first problem. I saw in a video (link below) that you can hide the food plate under the ground. Unfortunately, this doesn't work for me although I have switched off the scenario collision as mentioned in the video.

However, I noticed that she has turned off 'flatten terrain' in the lining plate settings, which doesn't work for me as the button is grayed out. Does anyone know how to turn this on? Or do you have other solutions to hide the plate?

That’s strange. Unless you’re in career mode playing a scenario. If that’s the case, some options like that aren’t available.

If it’s not scenario try restarting and/or verifying gamw files through Steam, if you haven’t already. Not sure of steps past that.

I followed the same steps in that video and got this:

I also have the flatten terrain grayed out - it says this object will always flatten terrain, meaning this is intended to happen not a bug. Clearly doesn't work for most people, either this is a weird trick that works for few people or an update has removed the ability to do this. You could try to hide food trays in flat rocks as the tray needs to be very close to the surface for the keeper to refill it.

Thanks for the quick reply. I have tried it both in franchise mode and in sandbox mode. I've also had the game files checked and everything is okay.
Do you have any other ideas?

I don't think you can do anything, guides from say 10 or so months ago are out of date as an update since then has removed the ability to lower enrichment into the ground. You will need to hide enrichment and other habitat items with above ground features like foliage and rocks.

Actually you don't need to place the food plate. Your animals will still get food without it.

A phantastic workaround:
Put down the regular guest paths everywhere you want to place these items (wherever possible as the usual path restrictions such as too steep terrain etc. apply) and position the items on the path. The underlying terrain will not change. Once you’re done, delete the path again.

In the video, the food tray also flattens the surrounding ground (not as drastically as in your screenshot, though), but she raises the ground around the tray to cover it up. That has always worked and still does for me. I have two other settings activated in the game settings, not sure what exactly each of them does (I set those years ago based on some advice), but they could have an impact on this case:
Disable scenery collision
Disable terrain collision
