Newcomer / Intro Flavum Metalic Crystals - Are these of any use for material gathering?

I came across these in Praea euq lq-l b22-1 but don't have weapons equipt on my DBX. Are they just a beautiful phenomenon, or are they collectable?

Shame...though i would've felt a bit stupid for coming this far away from the bubble without any way of mining them if they were mine-able. Thanks Ezren.

There are behaviours that you may be able to get them to express if that is of interest to you. Different nsp occupants have different behaviours.
Approaching, flashing your lights, shooting with a laser, sampling with a Research limpet, and probably other things, are all actions that might provoke some reaction and give a new codex entry.

Exploration can be more than just traveling, but so few people carry all the equipment required.

NB. I don't think these do anything, but other things do.

You would have to make sure that your SRV is engineered for launching into space (except you can't harvest from them anyway).

My mistake, thought I was pretty sure I've seen something similar on a planet during some SRV materials gathering using radar  But launching SRVs in space has been done before, using water geysers. Also CMDR Malic flew to another planet in an SRV, trip that lasted 37 hours.

You are no doubt thinking of Crystalline Shards which are favoured by many for raw material gathering:

P.S. I see that I must have clicked the wrong image in my earlier post, it should have been a winking smiley - but it was after 1 in the morning so that is my excuse. :ROFLMAO: (edited now)

Thanks for the advice and info folks. I'm on my way back from the jellyfish nebula to the bubble, still got about 4000ly to go so will revisit and flash lights to see what they do. One other thing I've noticed on this journey is that nearly every system has been discovered, but I did find a couple that were not tagged as "discovered by" and thought that I would be credited with the discovery but fully FSS scanned and mapped each planet, but they still don't show any discovered by name......any ideas why?

Discoveries don't count until you have sold them. This means that anyone who finds the same things you did but gets them sold first gets the fame and if your ship is destroyed before you have sold the data it will all be lost.

IIRC any Codex discoveries are immediate and safe from destruction, but I could easily be wrong on that.

aRJay thanks for that, i did not know that .

In the event of destruction of your ship you will also loose in addition to the exploration data, any unclaimed bounties and uncashed combat bonds, any cargo on board will be lost which if it was mission cargo probably can’t be replaced. You will get to keep any raw, encoded or manufactured materials you have acquired for engineering or synthesis.
