Fleet Carrier Achievements? Really?

So the entire point of this whole upkeep/decommissioning debacle was to keep the servers freed up right? So why are you incentivizing players to buy them by attaching an achievement to it? That's Hypocritical at best and Manipulative at worst.

What are these "achievements" you speak of?

Most gaming platforms (Xbox, PS, Ubisoft Play, Steam, MS Pass etc) give 'awards' when you accomplish something in a game. Like "bought your fifth ship!", or "visited your 100th system!". Often these come with 'points', which you can exchange for a discount or some other stuff. Kinda like how you earn Arx, but only when specific milestones are achieved.

In any case, OP already showed he has zero clue what he is talking about with his first sentence, his second sentence is just silly even if the first were true, and I have no idea in what realm his last sentence would be considered evidence of a sane mind.

I had no idea that these "achievements" held such power over mankind.
I have been gaming on Steam for a long, long time now and I have never paid attention to these achievements.

I think you are seeing connections that aren't there.

It is neither hypocritical nor manipulative. It's just achievements. Vast majority of games game has them.

Similar to badges on EDSM? They are just things to guide you to parts of the game play you may not have visited. No harm in that?

Thanks for explaining it in a way i could understand.

So, pats on the head.

And... someone is getting panties in a twist over this?

I dont particularly care about them in and of itself. The problem you guys aren't understanding is that there is a significant portion of the gaming populace that play games ONLY for the achievements. They will play a game. Unlock them then immediately put the game down. These aren't the kinds of players we want cluttering up the galaxy with their fleet carriers. They will buy them just to get the achievement then just walk off and leave them sitting there cluttering up the place because they dont actually care about the game they are playing. Everyone is so gungho for decommissioning and upkeep because it's supposed to disincentives this type of behavior YET adding achievements for buying one will do exactly this.
