Fleet Carrier Guest Logbook

Howdy,

Just realized that we can use bartenders to save goods, which made me look up inara to find that pilots are kind enough to offer stuff for sale. Amazing!

Anyway, the transaction kept timing out, giving me a generic "transaction error" thing so I could never actually buy anything. But it got me thinking....

Why can't I leave a little note to the owner of the carrier, like "CMDR Morphix on so so date left this msg while flying ship named ____" and give me like a paragraph or whatever to say thanks, your carrier looks great, appreciate you helping me upgrade this mav suit, or whatever. If you've parked your carrier in my system and I wanna leave you a karen style space cop notice to vacate...or else. Dumb things like this.

I've been looking through the carrier menus, and I don't see any mechanism that even tracks players coming or going.

Please at the first terminal you approach right after exiting the dock (bartander to your left, pioneer to your right), give us a little digital logbook to sign as guests of the carrier. Optional of course, but the stuff should default to viewable by everyone, unless you toggle that it's private for the carrier owners eyes only.

Anyway, this is the inara info that led me down this rabbithole. Thanks owner of the carrier, wish I could of left a little note instead of this silly forum post. Wish I could of bought this plating :\

So the error im getting which led to this idea, and also where I think the logbook should be located. Maybe someone has a better idea for the location, obviously I don't think it should be a real book, but something that's physically different looking than a terminal would be a nice, or maybe a terminal just angled, or sized down. Whatever, so that people who are new to carriers, don't mistake the logbook for a smaller less useful terminal.

edit1- on the way out of the carrier I realized the corridor to the hangars would also make a decent place to put it, so you remember to sign it on your way off the carrier. which works I think equally well as being reminded about the logbook as you enter the carrier.

Started thinking, since that giant panel is right there on the way to the hangars, it could basically be the logbook, I'm terrible at this sort of thing but someone can mock up a better interface, I just want some of this functionality.

I would like to have such a place and I want every user to be able to read it.

Imagine you board my carrier and then see dozens of messages of salty individuals that left messages speculating about the size of my , political orientation, the love my parents shared with me, accuse me to be worse than the current terrorist organizations IRL and would recommend suicide. That'd be highly entertaining.

I think it would be useful if the FC owner had the ability to delete abusive / inappropriate entries. Maybe even report them for FDEV action?

But then they would've had to read it so the damage would've already been done. I like the idea in theory, but people are just going to abuse it.

As I think about it, I kind of agree - there’s nothing more childish than a middle aged gamer!

It would be nice to have a log of CMDRs who have visited though.
When I had a FC (and an Inara account), I could see at one point that another player was present, and also stored some of his modules on it. Very fleeting information as it was obviously just a lucky snapshot, but yeah a log of sorts with past visitors would be nice.

Perhaps a limited list of canned responses ("thanks for the [insert FC function]") would be a decent compromise. And wasn't there the option to check sales, with a graph and all? After the initial release I thought one of the updates bugged it so stopped looking at it. Some statistics about items/modules/ships and whatever sold would be easy to implement also, and would make things feel more alive, as it'd include players from all game modes too.

I've advocated for message boards in stations for years for people to leave messages for other cmdrs to read. At its worst it can't be any worse than syschat.

It can't exactly be harder to investigate than a chat message if the support team need to bonk someone.

Do you think that your written abuse is not recorded in the session logfiles?
That's what I'm saying, I agree with you, I don't see how one written form of player engagement is that different than another, if anything a logbook where you think for a second about what you're trying to leave, would maybe curb some of the impulsive abuse. Or not. Whatever.
