I am around 9500ly outside the bubble on an exploration and mining expedition in my fleet carrier. It has become harder for me to understand which direction I am going. My last plot was meant to put me at 90° to my then position with the intention being that would be my first jump of a few in that direction before turning another 90° to start me on the return journey. When I checked my position on the EDSM site I find that I have just gone further out instead. In the galaxy map it is very easy to plot a course up to thousands of light years for ship use but there is nothing similar for fleet carriers. Is there some navigational tool to use or how do you other Cmdrs overcome this problem?.

The FC router is very good. When I can't be bothered to use that or am happy to be not so accurate I go to the galaxy map, zoom out fully, adjust the direction I want to head towards, then move down to behind my current galaxy so I'm in line with the direction, zoom back in but not all the way, then move forward through the stars and check every now and again that I'm getting to a 500LY range. It works for me.

Whenever I wish to make a direct Course, I setup a Bookmark as a Target.
Then when locating a suitable next jump target for the Carrier, I make sure I have that Bookmark somewhat aligned.
Quite simple but has proven to work out very reliable.

Set course for bookmark in normal ship while in hanger, switch to Carrier plotting and route shows on carrier map, scroll along route and pick a system, you can then repeat this. If you shut down when you restart you will have to replot in your ship to get it back on the carrier map.
If you cannot plot a route with the ship you are in then change to one with a longer jump range, If you are in an area with lots of systems and you are not in a hurry then a ship with a short jump range will give a lot of choice of systems en route and will also probably find one nearer to the 500ly limit.
