Ships Fleet carrier: Misaligned doors and wall display panels

Searched high and low and cannot find any comments about this here or via Google....

Has anyone else noticed that, occasionally, when returning to your carrier that the lift doors (mainly in the concourse area) and/or some wall display panels are not loaded properly and are slightly misaligned?

Easiest way to trigger it is, load up in the carrier, leave in a ship and fly off elsewhere in system, return, get out and get in the lift to the concourse. Bear in mind that the lift you exit into the concourse is a separate duplicate that should be perfectly aligned with the one you first got in, so you won't notice the swap as it loads the concourse. However, sometimes I find that the concourse dupe loads slightly misaligned, which can leave the lift doors opening slightly through the lift walls.

Only happens now and again, but, naturally, it bugs me. Don't have a shot of the doors (will do so next time) but here an example of a wall mounted display:

Anyone had this before?

Dropping to the main menu and reloading the game fixes it...until the next time something similar happens. Very odd.

Is there a local disk cache somewhere that the game uses...?

Cheers.

On one occasion, a door didn't load on a suspended service (collision layer was still there, so no entry):

Anybody have a clue what's happening, I'd be grateful to know. Ta...

Updated card drivers and let the game rebuild the drivers profile - no difference.
Played around with ED graphics settings - maybe improvement, maybe, but still glitches with out of alignment lifts/elevators in concourse.

Leave the carrier and don't jump out. Everything fine on return.
Leave the carrier and jump to supercruise. Glitches on return.

Looks like a graphics memory caching issue, but it's not something I've seen on stations before. So who knows.

Work around - relog after landing back at the carrier before exiting ship.

Anybody seen something similar with their carrier?

See it sometimes on stations. Usually coincides with the NPCs being floaty or imbedded in walls. So I don't think it's a driver issue, it's some weird thing where the object offsets have gone bad.

Thanks. Going to assume at present that it's just one of those Odyssey visual glitches that shows up with a specific setup. Annoying, but I can work around it.

Return the carrier, say it's broken and buy a new one.

Think I'll buy a station instead. Never had a problem with those...

Nope, never noticed such issues on my carrier
Must be something on your end.
Besides checking drivers, make sure you delete the files for the gfx options (assuming you play on windows):
  • exit the game
  • backup the content of the folder: "%userprofile%\AppData\Local\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options\Graphics"
  • delete the files from that location (i have 5 files in that location)
  • start the game and redo your preferred graphics settings

Edit: also redo a file integrity check from the launcher, but make sure you turn off the virtual cache

Cheers. Will give that a go. (y)

Out of carrier system at present, exploring, so I'll see what happens when I get back.

Update: No change with brand new graphics settings, unfortunately. Thanks for the suggestion though. Worth trying.

Does seem like a memory loading/cache flushing issue. If I drop from supercruise and go straight to the carrier, I get random door/panel loading glitches. If I drop from supercruise in sight of the carrier, relog, and then approach and dock, everything is just fine.

Not a deal breaker; just mildly annoying.

Might open a support ticket, just in case someone at FDev can point a finger at the issue.

Oh no, it's not a visual issue, the actual objects are incorrectly offset. I had to (short) drop into an elevator on a station one time. When it stopped at the new level it self corrected.

From what I'm told, it has to do with exterior lighting.
Move the aircraft carrier away from the star and there will be no such problems.

Not sure how that would make a difference, but...I'm currently parked near a gas giant a few thousand Ls from the system primary, doing some tritium mining, so I'll check this later.

Fault diagnosis 101: eliminate potential possibilities...

Okay. Ran some tests and you're definitely on to something.

All from orbit around a gas giant (1,400Ls out), not from next to a star (as with all previous tests)

Test 1: Exit Carrier. Jump to SC. Return. Hanger bay 10
  • No obvious issues.
Test 2: Exit Carrier. Jump to SC. Return. Hanger bay 12 (for some reason a problematic bay)
  • Slight misalignment of small flap that lays over edge of landing pad at entrance to elevators.
  • No interaction prompt on console on commander chair...until accessing another console (another oddity I've noticed in the past).
Test 3: Exit Carrier. Jump to SC. Exit to Desktop. Reload. Return. Hanger bay 10
  • Slight misalignment of elevator doors spawning in concourse causing minor clipping.
  • No interaction prompt on console on commander chair...until accessing another console.
Test 4: Exit Carrier. Jump directly to another system (no intermediate SC). Return. Hanger bay 09
  • No interaction prompt on console on commander chair...until accessing another console.

Given that this is all a dramatic improvement over all previous next-to-star tests, it looks pretty convincing that it is something to do with 'lighting'. Certainly, if I'd never parked next to a star, I would have been someone saying 'I've not seen this before' as the current minor clipping is only really noticeable because I've become very sensitive to this issue.

Bottom line: Bravo, commander. From now on I shall move the carrier away from the star after discovering a system.

If anything changes or there is further info to add, I shall post.

Hopefully, this is potentially useful to someone else as well.

Ouch...

Is it reproducible?
No it just happens the odd time, the command seat and other elements on the flight deck are offset, it's quite rare. One issue that happens quite often as you mentioned above is that the chair console doesn't have the interaction option but usually standing up and sitting down again fixes it.

Just got back to my carrier after a few planetary landings and bio-scanning. Apart from a slight elevator door alignment offset (when arriving at the concourse) causing a mild (probably unnoticed to most) clipping, no issues at all. So it's definitely down to parking near stars.

On that note; is there any correlation between your glitches and parking location as well?

I never thought to check that but will do if it happens again
