Fleet Carrier & the M67 cluster of stars in live

Does any explorer have the funds and means to make this happen, basically all hop on board and explore the M67 cluster before returning "home" on the fleet carrier?

As an Xbox player of course it would need to be an Xbox expedition for this too, i could just about stump up the funds for a carrier and shipyard, and depending on upkeep would depend on the length of trip before having to return home.

before i get too involved with mathing this one out i just want to check interest, harvesting the fuel solo for a FC is not going to happen and means this project is dead, of course with 16 landing pads i would need active players and mining ships to help share the workload, the benefit is a few weeks / a month in the M67 cluster including a return trip.

with 10 billion sat in an offshore account i think i could make this work, so thoughts welcome and 15 spare pads.

It's not how i believe it should work more on that in the spoiler;

this would feel a lot more appetizing if we could pay for a slot on board or all those attending the expedition could pay a share of the costs since there is no current way to gift funds to the owner of the carrier.

i.e create a co-operative and purchase a FC together and some of these figures are just of course arbitory for now and for illustration;

A Fleet Carrier has 16 landing pads:
  • 8 Large
  • 4 Medium
  • 4 Small

Maybe pad size % of costs can be priced different but lets forget that for now.

16 ships to share a cost of;

5 billion purchase price
500 million shipyard + some essential mining parts in outfitting (or store your own)
2 billion for upkeep (3 months expedition lets say)

~7.5 billion investment

so a 0.5 Billion ticket price ( + plus some community work for refueling etc.)

forgetting the sale price of the fleet carrier at the end, i'm sure a lot of people would be happy to "spend" 0.5 billion on an expedition.

but could offer an expedition of sorts like no other.

YES! In fact I have already planned just such an expedition even! Celebration of Early Astronomy 2 will be exploring Messier 67 as it's first goal. https://expedition.page.link/Announcement

I believe Fleet Carriers are supposed to be visible cross-platform, so XBox players should be able to see FCs of PC players and vice-versa.

If you are interested in doing this as well though I would more than love to have an official leader for the XBox side of things.

You realise carriers aren't limited to 16 people? Just like any other space station, you can carry an infinite number of people and all their ships on your carrier. The 16 pads is just an instance limit.

There probably won't be too much interest in M67, however, since it's already been fully explored and Tagged. A few players who have travelled the one-way trip to M67 have chosen to submit tickets and get FDev to teleport them to safety rather than suicide, so their Tags are all over M67.

Aye yes, exploration isn't about tags, even though some folk will go to extreme measure such as crying for Fdev to move them, the tags in m67 cluster do serve one purpose though... Highlighting who those people are, not a great advertisement for your CMDR in my eyes and set there for good for everyone to see.

@Kezika Yes sounds great, although take up on Xbox is usually very low so i doubt i could harvest enough fuel to keep up with you guys, The fleet carrier may just end up as a jump ship to help CMDRs travel to m67 and back for as long as i can afford the upkeep (December 2020 at current rates) because i don't generally play enough "credit activities" to earn new income.

and yes @Stabby_Dave it would be easier with small seismic charges then i could earn some pennies and join the get rich quick scheme in my Dolphin (or moderately face paced scheme being in a dolphin after-all)

Well as I understand your Fleet Carrier should also show up to PC players to provide you fuel.

Also yeah, tags aren't too big of a deal of course. and there will be change for mapping tags as well up there since Distant Suns 3303 went before the December 2018 exploration update, so that'll give us a chance to find the stuff that they may not have found due to not having the surface scanners at their disposal back then.

Additionally there are some other sole lone systems or small groups of 3 or 4 systems up and around areas high up from the plane that were out of even Neutron reach before, but may possibly be within Fleet Carrier reach now.

Tags are a big deal for many of us explorers. I put in another ticket (not an extreme measure and not crying) and hope they can fix this by just wiping M67. Everything (everything) is tagged up there, mostly by one (1) dude. They correctly deleted space bucks from people's accounts who were buy/selling slaves at the same station which is an exploit just as surely as this is. It's actually worse because it permanently altered the game board, whereas there was nothing to do with the stolen 10 billion back in the day.

Not much has been surface scanned, though.

I had a carrier up there last week and it was great! Even with the 2 hours between jumps, it was easy to get there fun. It'll be trivial with short cooldowns.

Carriers are cross platform and cross mode so a PC or play station expedition will work for you if you can't find an xbox expedition.
