Fleet carriers not decommissioned during absences from the game?

Having searched all the places I can think of, including the forum, unofficial and official Fleet Carrier FAQs and Codex, I'm none the wiser about what happened, so I thought I'd ask here because I'm curious about what happened...

I took a break from the game about a year ago, and only returned a couple of months ago. I fully expected to find that my carrier would have burned through its reserve and been ("involuntarily") decommissioned, returning whatever balance remained (ballpark 5 billion) to my main account.
In fact my carrier and its cargo were still intact and my credit balance wasn't much different to how I had left it. This is utterly at odds with how I believed the game worked, but I'm not exactly complaining.

Are the upkeep charges disabled if you stop playing?

There was a time, shortly after Odyssey's roll out where I stopped getting notices about carrier maintenance. Perhaps it was bugged for awhile and we weren't being charged upkeep? Not really sure.

Ah, maybe... It would be pretty hilarious if blind luck was the reason my carrier didn't get booted! :ROFLMAO:

If you had services available and allowed access to other players, perhaps your carrier earned enough to pay for itself?

Mine definitely burned through all its reserve and was on the way to being repossessed a few weeks ago.

Mmm, I had very little enabled (fuel, repair, restock) and I'm not sure I had much if any tariff (5% or less). Yours was nearly repossessed, and you were also absent for some time? Weird...
