Fleet Carriers: On Board Mission Givers Based On Local Faction Rep

Idea:
  • If a fleet carrier is an a populated system and the carrier owner is allied with local factions, ambassadors of those factions become present on the fleet carrier as additional mission givers.
  • If the carrier moves to another system, the ambassadors come-and go based on allied status.
  • If a visitor cmdr takes on a mission and then the carrier goes away... too bad. Its gone. Msg pops up saying carrier moved, mission failed.
  • Possibly the ambassador gives missions to visitor cmdrs only if they are at least friendly with the faction.
  • Possibly the fleet carrier requires an additional module to enable this feature. A Fleet Carrier Ambassador Lounge.
  • Possibly the ambassadors appear only after several days of being parked in the system.

Reason:
  • Gives good reason to visit other cmdr carriers. Greater familiarity and fun with player created content. Players become familiar with other fleet carriers. Noticing them and using them for good purpose.
  • Gives more reason for a cmdr to visit their own carrier when parked in a populated system.
  • Makes a carrier seem more alive and integrated with the game around it.
  • Gives additional missions a cmdr can stack.

Downside:
  • This will encourage players to park in populated systems, filling them up. Ya this is bad. Dead beat do-nothing carriers could lose rep with local factions along with the carrier owner. Also fleet carriers untouched for +30 days could be auto bumped to nearby system. Maybe some other creative solutions based on activity could be thought of too.
  • Some cmdrs will complain that their missions failed when a carrier moved. Oh well.

Possibly the fleet carrier requires an additional module to enable this feature. A Fleet Carrier Ambassador Lounge.
An ambassador lounge could be used for longer term mission givers too. In deep space. Exploration based missions.
  • Exploration based missions. Finding and scanning certain types of planets or stars, bringing back samples, etc.
  • Giving more structure and purpose in deep space for cmdrs who would prefer that.
  • Provides a method for exploration cmdrs to gain mfg and encoded mats from mission rewards.

The other day I had some ideas how can fleet carriers owners/visitors experience be improved, some of them:
  • Mission board, containing relatively small number of missions (in comparison with station mission board).
  • Commonly accessible storage, ability for FC visitor to dump cargo in the hangar (like jettison when being docked), which makes cargo available to other visitors with the ability to reclaim it (for everyone) or trash (for FC owner). The limit is controlled by carrier owner. It is practically persistent alternative to jettisoning and collecting cargo in space.
  • An additional message/chat channel that can be used to leave messages to other visitors and owner. Messages will be kept for a week or longer. It could be integrated with Inara/Discord, to contact offline players from the game. Ability to pin messages for FC owner.
  • More (specialized) layouts (or modular layout) to reduce its weight/increase jump range and adjust upkeep/maintenance costs. E.g. having different number of landing pads.
  • More rooms inside fleet carrier accessible via elevator.
  • Carrier damage and repair, with ability to influence jump range and upkeep costs.
  • Add large interactive TV panels to the bar where one can watch latest GalNet news. Add news/reports from current system's POIs - fragments of video created using game engine itself (e.g. short ships fly-by's) and AI generated subtitles. Advertising current active POIs - like "received SOS signal from heavily damaged ship asking for emergency repair" - with the ability to accept it in a form of random mission in messages panel.
  • Add some simple games to the ship bar (like chess), decorations, plants etc (customizations purchaseable for Arx) to entertain passengers on long trips.
  • Add local guest book where visitors can leave messages (public or private) to FC owner and some public statistics.
  • Make carrier crew to be hired similarly to ship crew and level up according to their experience
  • From the bookmarked carriers departing out of (or to) the current (or close-by) system commanders can receive notifications on message panel for the jump (+ countdown) with shortcuts to set lock/route to the carrier.

I would even suggest that maybe just the concourse bar could house these mission givers. Right now, there isnt much to do there besides trade with the bar tender. Having the people hanging around being faction representatives could be a nice addition.
