Fleet Carriers - Promote Squadron/Group Play with Shared Resources

Finally grinded up to a fleet carrier and I have the following 'old man yells at cloud' complaints/suggestions.

Add the ability to have squadron communal bank / communal storage /shared carrier management.

I play with a very small group many of whom are casual. I have a ton of time off right now which is why I was able to grind out a carrier. We were hoping to be able to mine and trade and store all our hard work in the carrier and then sell it in bulk when the price was good. Was also hoping my friends could help share the burden of the upkeep costs as its essentially a squadron asset.

Instead we need a convoluted price manipulation to store stuff onboard and transfer money. Me buying x commodity from them for 5% of the market price and then them buying back later is essentially just storage with extra steps. I can set prices to whatever they need to be to make it work.

Why not just let us have a pooled bank / storage? Instead of me having to screw around with prices and inventory? I am trying to get my gamer bros into this game but this kind of thing just dissuades them from playing (i.e. im trying to sell you more copies of this game / arx / revenue). Help me help you.

Appreciate what you're saying but there should never be an easy way to transfer credits between players, we all know where that leads.

I buy X commodity for 100,000. I sell it via my fleet carrier to another player for 5000. He sells it to the market for 95,000.

I buy X commodity for 100,000. I abandon it and he picks it up with limpits and sells for 100,000.

Its already possible and its easy enough to do... preventing communal use of a fleet carrier just seems like a half-measure that impedes enjoying group gameplay / squadron management.

Yeah this has existed since long before carriers. That or just let a friend afk while you do some expansion farming.

There's already so many ways to make your friends rich.

I don't yet have a fleet carrier, I'm very deliberately not rushing for one, but would like one eventually. I think being able to associate your personal fleet carrier with your squadron if you want to share it in that manner would be a nice extra option.

My group sounds very much like @TrashbagMcKee's. I want a carrier, they want to share and use it once I've got it. We don't all want a carrier each. Just opening up the carrier management options to relevant ranks in the squadron would be a nice way to bring some more group play into the fold; if I take a break for life reasons they can keep using and moving the carrier as they need to.

Sure, that may mean having access to multiple carrier management screens will need to be a thing; especially if a larger squadron all have carriers, and all open up the shared management option to all of them, but that's something that could theoretically be dealt with and managed too.

EDIT: I suppose the only other way to limit the multi-carrier management screens is if only the squadron owner can associate their carrier to the squadron. High enough ranked members of the squadron would then only have to deal with "personal carrier" and "squadron carrier" management screens.

In a way You have all those options already.
All squadron members are able to store ships and modules on the carrier as long as You have shipyard and outfitting modules installed.
You can allow only squad members to access carrier, use market to buy from squad members while mining and then adjust prices to get profit margin enough to fund carrier upkeep when You are all done and want to sell the stuff to chosen station. You can also set one commodity type to be considered by all squad members as donation option and each member who wants to donate credits can simply buy it.
I recall times when I was collecting money for carrier too- it has taken a while but after that I have found method to earn credits fast and in easy way which was also convenient for me. I can also tell You that at some point getting more credits in game is pointless as there are not many features that require them. All You can do is to buy ships, modules, spend money to get faction rep (donation missions) but beyond that what else? I cannot use credits to buy rare materials I sometimes need, when I want to refuel tritium to my carrier and add it to the market for double price not many players are willing to trade for double profit- which is also something I can understand- and I had to refill my own carrier by myself quite often.

Instead of shared bank and storage I would prefer to have an option to engineer ship/module and make it available for sale in shipyard/outfitting section therefore making those available to players (in Your case squad members only) who can dock to my carrier. This would make things more interesting both for players who like to engineer ships and those who do not like it but have a way to earn credits.

However I would be interested in limited shared management option for squad members, which would allow to adjust market, shipyard, outfitting and navigation. It would be useful for players owning multiple carriers or squad members who would not be limited to waiting for carrier owner to login and adjust carrier settings or make it jump somewhere else.

That they couldn't figure out how to get what you're asking for here to work is probably one of the reasons why the fleet carriers became "personal" instead of the squadron assets they were suppose to be.

Is that truly the reason? It's essentially an excel spreadsheet with a very elaborate GUI, I can't imagine it's that complicated. (Maybe it is I know nothing about Vidya making)

No, the reason is that's what players asked for before fleet carriers were released when FDEV were developing them, the vast majority of payers wanted "personal" fleet carriers. The requirements to own a FC if they were squadron assets would probably have been prohibitive for a single player, and maybe impossible due to the squadron requirements, people wanted personal fleet carriers and that's what we got.

Seems like all you'd have to do to satisfy both camps is make it affordable by an individual but manageable by a squadron. Why would this be an either/or decision?

Because it's a squadron asset and it requires a squadron to own it? Whether it's manageable by an individual is irrelevant, it still requires that individual to be a squadron leader.

I remember some discussion on the forums before the carrier concept was changed about the practicalities of setting up and operating single player squadrons to get access to a personal Fleet Carrier.

Yep, we would have ended up with thousands and thousands of single player squadrons just so people could own their own fleet carrier.
