Fleet carriers single player owned, 500ly jump range

Indeed, but it'll also take time to get them out to those locations. No indication yet on how often they can jump, or how expensive/difficult their fuel will be to obtain. It'll probably be a multi-week or multi-month race to get out to the new record-seeking locations. ;)

What I'm really intrigued by is what the exploration module / support vessel will do. Does that mean UC services on the carrier? Or something else?

Frontier mentioned before that the carriers will jump whenever they're fueled up, regardless of the weekly server tick.
Of course, we know nothing about how much effort it will be to refuel them. Since their jump range covers the entire bubble, I expect that mining (or otherwise obtaining) the fuel will be a considerable effort.

Oh, and maybe it's just me, but new records sound good to me. But since multiple Commanders can team up to refuel a carrier, this time it'll likely be a race of squadrons.

Perhaps carriers can only jump to previously explored systems?

Well, that will certainly give a purpose to one way trips. Make the neutron jump in your ship. Does not matter if you can make the return trip or not. Make the jump, self destruct, then go back with the carrier.

Now, a really interesting question for me, is will the carrier be allowed as a spawn point on destruction?

As long as refuelling is slow and involved. Of course it will be a grind to some...

Indeed, I foresee some obscure and horrific grindy process in which these carriers are refueled.
Let the grindfest live on!

That's 2000 ly with neutron boost … mhmmmmmmmm
that's assuming you can neutron-boost a carrier. It's questionable whether they'll appear in supercruise since they appear to jump the same way capital ships do - when was the last time you saw one of those flying around the system instead of just being there at a PoI?

It won't be neutron-boostable, nor synthesis-boostable; it uses a different stardrive to the FSD, so things that work to boost FSDs won't work on it. I strongly suspect that you won't be able to move it at all, once it arrives in-system, just like any other megaship or capital ship.

I imagine there are people right now planning a race to be first to BP...

I don't see the point in planning anything, until we get more info about how they work.

We've all seen updates and additions to the game that looked good and sounded good on paper, but it turned out weren't that helpful or useful to explorers. I'm worried that carriers may be one of them.

I'm imagining that, to fuel a Carrier, you're going to need to go and buy Arexacki Power Hamsters (rare good, only available from Arexack; strict limit 12t per shipment, you need 100t to fill the carrier's hamster-tanks). That'd be fine for people in the Bubble, and maybe in Colonia too if someone brings a breeding colony of hamsters out there, but it'd be useless for deep-space exploration.

One snippet shows the carrier orbiting the mildly-famous MCC 528 1, the ELW. Personally, I find it most likely that we'll be able to have it fly to and orbit specific bodies in the system, but not pilot it ourselves.
