I'm waiting to hear what happens when you schedule a jump, but at the time of the jump you're out and about puttering around in your DBX two stars over. Ooops.
In a DBX you'll be fine - worry about what happens when you're out in your explora-Eagle and your FC jumps away....I'm waiting to hear what happens when you schedule a jump, but at the time of the jump you're out and about puttering around in your DBX two stars over. Ooops.
Umm... Alternately, make the neutron jump, schedule the carrier to jump to where you are. No need to suicide. (this is assuming you can't jump to planets you don't have planetary data for).Well, that will certainly give a purpose to one way trips. Make the neutron jump in your ship. Does not matter if you can make the return trip or not. Make the jump, self destruct, then go back with the carrier.
Now, a really interesting question for me, is will the carrier be allowed as a spawn point on destruction?
Hm? An Eagle with an SRV bay (heavy!) fitted can do a bit under 40 ly, more without. Perfectly enough to get through anywhere except the most sparse areas - so, you can pretty much always catch up to your carrier. In a DBX you'll be fine - worry about what happens when you're out in your explora-Eagle and your FC jumps away...
My point was that when exploring you can often want to opt for a long range ship like a DBX, or a short range ship for easier sector sweeps - for which I use a suitably short ranged Eagle. Although I expect people will either have the carrier catch up to them (for the services), or jump while they are on board.
Or if you prefer exploring in a fully combat fitted FGS or Corvette or whatever, now you can do that. You can forget about setting up your ship for long range. Hell, you don't even need a fuel scoop if you don't want one. You can explore something and if you find a human base in your Asp X, you can go back to the carrier, get your combat ship and go down. Not yet. I expect we will have to wait for almost launch time to know.Has there been any mention on whether the Fleet Carrier will be a spawn point upon death if it was the last docking point?
One snippet shows the carrier orbiting the mildly-famous MCC 528 1, the ELW. Personally, I find it most likely that we'll be able to have it fly to and orbit specific bodies in the system, but not pilot it ourselves.
Personally, I'd wait for official word on this. In the meantime, what we do know is that Frontier showed a carrier orbiting a body (MCC 528 1), not the arrival star.IIRC, Obsidian Ant said that we will not be able to fly the carriers. Once in a system, that's where is stays.

The fuel will be tears from salty players.![]()
Everything breaks if you can instance a carrier with any other POI.IMO you should be able to move them albeit very slowly.

If it's by itself then it doesn't matter if it's indestrucable and also has weapons. If there is something else there then it's a source of infinite weapons fire.
Drop it into a CZ and just sit in the hanger until everything is dead.
Not going to happen. The carrier is a defensibe point to retreat to, but the game breaks if it can be used to attack.
