You can manage your carrier, i.e. sell / buy stuff you wish to other PLAYERS (not to npc), buy / run services like universal cartographic, order carrier to jump, store your stuff on-board, like mined platinum. However all expenses will come from your pocket.
And no, no npc squadron.
