Release Fleetcarrier.space

Hey folks.

As the Fleet Carrier launch nears rapidly, I've started work on a small web-based tool for fleet carrier owners and users. The system collates information about the carrier through the Commander API, as well as through EDDN, and allows the owner to see quite a bit of detail about their carrier. For users, it will let them see what services the carrier offers, any marketed commodities, and the carrier's position. It will also allow you to search for carriers near a specified system.

The system is very bare bones just yet, and has some intensive work over the coming days before it can be properly tested, but I'm hoping to at least start letting some users in by the time Fleet Carriers launch, and then a public release shortly thereafter.

See you in the black, Commanders. o7

FCMS is releasing into beta today, using data from the beta tests. Anyone can register at https://fleetcarrier.space/register and give the system a try. Please note that some of the core functionality is still being worked at extensively, some placeholder UI is still in use, and errors may happen. If you had a carrier during the beta, I encourage you to give it a spin, so I have more tasty data to see what breaks.

Persistent errors may be reported by PM, on GitHub or on the Elite Dangerous Community Developers discord.

The aim is to release alongside Fleet Carriers on Tuesday, with further refinement in the coming weeks as far as functionality goes. On the tentative roadmap sofar is:

  • Map of nearby carriers
  • Squadron/Player Minor Faction affiliation and insignia
  • Webhooks for Carrier Jump events (For discord/slack/similar communication tools)
  • Less bugs.

Fleetcarrier.space will be trying to cope with the update to carrier callsigns today, but there is no guarantee that the transition mechanism I've written will work for everyone. Thus it is entirely possible a pretty big chunk of carriers will need to be re-added today.

If that does happen, registered carriers on FCMS will need to re-add their carrier images and MOTD/mottos, as well as any scheduled calendar events. Everything else will be pulled back in from CAPI.

I am hopeful this does not turn out to be necessary, but this is one of those things that I can't test ahead of time, so the dice will fall as they will.
