Flight assist off mechanic changed?

can anyone confirm that flight assist was changed? it used to be i could flight assist off and turn around like a turret if i was careful where my initial direction was headed. Now i seem to ark in what would appear to eventually be a circle, upon turning the ships nose to the back when in free flight. anyone else notice differences or can confirm/denie?

Funny, because the same thing caused me to slam into an asteroid in my viper the other day. There was a definite "arc" to it. I couldn't tell if it was something I did or not.

I was flying straight, turned flight assist off. Cruised forward a bit more like I always do, there was an asteroid ahead and above me. Started my rotation and my ship "arced" bottom first into the asteroid. Now I always keep it in mind when I do this maneuver.

I thought for sure I would just skim by the surface of the asteroid as I was rotating...

You may be describing an optical illusion. When you see camera footage of air to air impacts from the missiles point of view, it does look like the objects fly towards each other along an arc. Especially if it's more of a head on view.

Is it possible that the thruster balancing isn't right on some ships? IIRC, the physics engine actually cares about how thrusters are positioned and fired. So if anything is off in how your input is translated to thrust or the way their are situated, I could see some unexpected movement occurring.
