Newcomer / Intro Flight assist off - pulse or maintain?

Hi,

Took my first step into my ship today..... not sure where it is now as I got stuck and just logged (probably blown up).

However I have been reading and watching youtube videos and noticed that there is a high recommendation to use FA off. I assume that combat is perfectly fine without it but equally imagine that the better fighters out there play with it off.

However having just tried it in practice it does make targeting very very hard. I play with a joystick and was essentially unable to hit a target with fixed lasers. Once I released the button I had full control again and I am wondering if that is how people use it. Should it be used as a Pulse mechanism where I can strafe someone, maintain my crosshairs without worrying about orbiting speed and then enable FA to then pursue the target?

OR.... am I just bad at targeting and should I be able to take things down whilst it is off?

Regards

Aye.... I know that already :) Painfully so. But what I'm trying to understand is if it's supposed to be pulsed to get your angle and then on again or if I'm supposed to fly with it off during fights for extended periods.

I understand that no fight is ever the same but it's the principal I'm trying to understand.

Thanks

Lee

There's no wrong or right, configure it according to your skill level and flying style. I prefer to have it off, and only enable it in short bursts every now and then. Some like to keep it off 100% of the time, many never disable it.

Use what works for you, it takes a while to master it, your preference will change over time.

I am still a novice when it comes to FA off figniting so take anything I say with a very small grain of salt.

When in battle I use FA off to make quicker 180° turns by setting my throttle in the blue area, then switching FA off, and turning it back on when my target is back in my sights.

I also use it to gain a higher reverse speed when dealing with multpile NPC condas in SSS's.

I only turn FA off when I get out turned by an eagle(the only ship that has a higher turn rate than my vulture) you really just have to practice with it and see witch you like more.

For me it is really difficult to fly with it off for an extended period of time. gimbaled weapons kinda make it unnecessary for me.

Good advice IMO. Although pulsed is, maybe too strong a word. I have the FA off bound to a joystick key as hold not toggle. I use it when I am trying to do a fast turn.
