Flight Assist Options

Option to turn off Thrust Assist, and Rotation Assist, separately (with separate keybinds). So that my ship continues to drift inertially, but pitch/yaw/bank are tied to the joystick center.

An airplane doesn't continue to bank or pitch when the pilot centers the stick, I'd like the ships to do the same.

This has been suggested a few times on Reddit and elsewhere.

Airplanes don’t continue to bank because the flaps return to neutral with the stick/yoke, which acts on the air such to stop the plane’s rotation.

Without air, the ship would continue to rotate until counter-thrust is applied. Exactly how it is now.

The thing that is currently not “correct” is that directional velocity is counter-thrusted back down to the ship’s normal top speed after boost. But I suppose there are gameplay issues with letting that be Newtonian.
Personally, I would like to see FAO let ships hit max boost speed in any direction and then maybe have the thrusters safety-off for that direction so there is still a max directional velocity, but with no counter-thrust until you apply it or turn FA back on.
But I don’t think that’s a realistic possibility.

Ok, I understand that it won't be implemented. But, no, I don't mind that boost speed is throttled down to max speed, it's just very difficult to guess the zero point for any turns. I.E. I yank back on the joystick, and then have to push forward (to stop the turn) to the exact same micron of axis movement. It's impossible. I-War:EoC had flight assist off for just the thrusters, and I loved that system; you could really aim non-turret weapons very precisely while drifting in any direction.

Oh well. I guess spamming the FA button is what's acceptable.

It would definitely be easier to fly! But that's why there is a whole culture around FAO stunts. I'd certainly be better with it in battle if things were your way...

I'd like this option too.

I can't really do full FA off on my gamepad because it lacks the finer controls of a joystick or mouse. I'm lucky if I can correct any rotation at all, without over compensating.

So being able to keep rotation assist on, but vector assist off would help quite a lot.
Despite that fact that throttle control on a gamepad is also awkward. Lol

Imagine if they made the SRV drive assist off the same way. You steer left and it gets stuck going left, in circles, until you steer right, to compensate. It would be as frustrating as the space flight is.

But, per the moderator above, they said NO, it's no. I've seen it asked before, I'm sure it's been NO for a long time, so let's drop it. I'll link to this from now on, whenever I see it suggested on Reddit.

This is what I do, though in reverse of what the FA-off "flippers" do. I often prefer being in FA-off, but I'll use FA-on momentarily to stabilize myself. From my own experience on PS4 with controller, FA-on is actually superior to FA-off in performing certain maneuvers (the ship is more responsive), but in combat, especially PvP, I prefer FA-off. This has less to do with being an awesome FA-off pilot (I'm not) and more to do with the other benefits of FA-off - full speed w/o full engine pips and limiting smoke trail to help hide the position of my stealth fighter.
