flight landing overide binding?

I have had the game since launch but always wondered about this and its about time I knew!
I have never set any binds to this and can manually land from docking request using standard flight binds in under 30 sec's
so whats it for exactly can someone possibly enlighten me?

It is for whatever you can think of using it for. ;)

I only use it for landing on high g moons. In “flight landing override” I have set the “Vertical Thrust Axis” to the (E) rotary on my X52 Pro. Once I am in a landing position with the gear extended. I can balance the vertical thrust to counteract gravity then blip my normal vert thruster (throttle hat) to slowly land. The setting worked and now I only remember I’ve set it when the ship rises or lowers unexpectedly.
Other than that I don’t see any other use for the overrides.

[Edit] The previous version of my reply reminded me of a joke.

Did you hear about the Radio Officer's daughter
She only didit cause her dada didit.

I use Landing Override binding to change my 4-Way Hat buttons to do thrusters Up, Down, Left, Right when I put out my landing gear. I continue using Throttle for forward/back (and I still use normal pitch/roll/yaw), so I don't have to use any key-combos. Otherwise my Hat buttons control PIPs and I normally use a combo for thrusters.

If you have all 6 DOF permanently assigned to your controls, then it does nothing. If, on the other hand, you play with e.g. a game controller that only has four analog axes, then the flight landing override lets you remap those axes (and other controls, if necessary) so that you can land reliably.

so some do use it ok, never had any problem landing high g or not on standard flight controls using an x box controller personally
glad you all find it handy...…….

I've also wondered the details of the flight landing overrides implementation (but have been put off experimenting as I really don't want a bout of control binding confusion in that it the most critical phase of flight).

Can anybody clarify exactly when the Flight Landing Overrides take over? - Do they kick in when the pad centring or surface landing radars turn on (and go away with the pad/surface radars)?

Nothing as complicated - it switches on when you lower the landing gear. Which is also why remapping boost doesn't change anything, as boost is disabled anyways when the gear is lowered.
