Flight Landing Override

This is technically a question concerning the xbox version, but it pertains to a feature not existent in the xbox version, so putting it in that subforum would be an exercise in futility.

Anyways....

Having been an xbox player for a year or so, and having recently gotten ED for my laptop (I still play with an xbox controller), I've noticed differences here and there. One interesting difference is that the PC has a settings category in controls called "flight landing override." I'm assuming most everyone knows what it does, but if not, I'll quickly explain: it allows you to set an alternate flight control scheme for when the landing gear is deployed.
Once I knew it existed, I made the simple change of switching my yaw control (left and right on the right-hand stick), to lateral thrust. Lateral thrust also being something I didn't even know the game had, since it isn't bound to anything by default on xbox. (But, how could it, with the limitations of the controller?)

I still play on xbox with my friends, and I discovered that this entire feature doesn't exist on the xbox. Any real reason?

Curious fellow Xbox'er here. Wouldn't this provide the same functionality as the alternate flight mode we've had since the get-go bound to clicking the left stick? That basically does what you're describing by default, switching yaw for horizontal thrust on the right stick. Does that mode even exist on the PC version?

I could see having it bound to whether or not your landing gear is deployed being useful if you always line yourself up before deploying them. Personally, I like to deploy the gear even before being perfectly lined up, often using them as a sort of brake while zooming through the mail slot like an idiot. ;)

Oh yeah, alternate flight control exists on the PC. Now that you mention it, I guess you could set it up that way to use it for landing. Maybe FD figured we didn't really need it/ever use it.
