Flight Mechanics Video

Thanks.

Does anyone feel a 'third' flight mode would be worth while? One that maybe is half on / half off, for example flight assist for your directional momentum goes off, whilst FA on your orientation (pitch, roll, rudder) remains on...

Would this make things too easy?

Yes, it would. FA OFF can give you an edge, and that's why it is good that it is hard to learn, and even harder to master.

Wow Granite that was inspired, how on earth are you toggling FA on and off though. I was super impressed by the way you could turn over them. I find with FA on turning like that is impossible and I spend ages just circling around to get them in site again. By which time shields have recharged and so on.

I to am using the XBOX controller, which I firmly prefer to the KB+M option, but like to use the KB for some functions, that you can't map to the XBOX controller owing to a lack of buttons. Anyway please let me know how you toggle FA so I can practice that move, it was awesome.

I mapped flight assist on/off to pushing the joystick itself in on the roll/pitch controller. Its okish like this.

There's been a few of these I know, but I just wanted to share this one.

I saw that some people were struggling with the Flight Assist Off mode, so I made this video. Hopefully it helps out a bit...

Fantastic video there Granite. You might want to experiment with the Roll into yaw and Roll into initial yaw from the config menu. You will find if you fly with FA off, you might want roll into yaw as you get somw yaw movement thus facilitating tracking :)

Check out some youtube videos by user Isinona. He flies with FA off quite a bit.

The default keyboard key to toggle flight assist is Z, and the default XBOX pad default is to press the left thumbstick. You can change this in the Controls settings under Flight > Toggle Flight Assist.

Spend some time in the first mission just flying around the asteroids - it's a great place to practice.

I do enjoy the challenge I must admit. I've been reading up a bit on the Flight Mechanics on Star Citizen recently, and it's a little difficult to ascertain what they are trying to do with the game. At the moment it appears they are going for the 3 flight modes, and none of them actually fully disable the flight assist.

Anyway - I'm looking forward to getting into Elite multiplayer so I can practice against something other than AI :D

Thanks for the tip - I'm going to give this a try... :)
