Flight Path Vector Indicator

This is an inverted T shaped indicator that points in the direction that the ship is traveling. It helps to determine if the ship is sliding, for whatever reason (gravity, flight assist off, lateral thrust). Here's an example of one I pull off the net: https://images.app.goo.gl/SY6AU1XpTqdMxUDBA

Space dust is an old way of doing this cinematically but IMO is difficult to see as well as imprecise. This, coupled with the other gauges should help the pilot determine where the ship is going, and of course may be optionally turned off via the 4 panel.

Yes please. It's way better than trying to figure it by fixating on a distant star or other landmark for a few seconds.

I fly without the space dust, as per this mod: Amazingly Realistic Immersion Mod

It's awesome and you can get the hang of it quite easily, and yes agreed it's a bit odd there is no instrument for vector in a semi-sim about flying in space where vector is everything. I think FDev, in trying to to recreate/resurrect a classic game from the 80s, took some things too literally...!

It’s been suggested by FAoff players many times ever since the game released, and while I’d like to see a HUD indicator as you’ve suggested (it’s a feature of the previous two games), I’d also like to see a heading pointer on the ship hologram to the right of the scanner - that way you can still see what direction you are drifting in even when the vector indicator is offscreen.

I fly FA Off and tbh it’s no issues not to have space dust to give you the ‘vector’. You can get the feel for it quite easily based on visual cues from external objects. However still, it’s the future, space craft, no hud indicator.... really? Seems such an obvious thing to include.

And if they really wanted to do a ‘space dust’ type vector indicator, I wonder if they thought about doing a HUD version of space dust, using some type of virtual dust or space grid, as opposed to a super unrealistic representation of so called dust particles. At the scale of things, to be able to see the dust particles, they’re probably the size of apples or footballs at least!
