Flight seat for playing elite dangerous in!.

So I have ED, I have a rift, I have an X55 HOTAS..... what more could I want to complete my attempt at flying my own space ship....... A flight seat!.

This is not directly related to ED, however it was purchased for the most part for playing ED, and I can imagine it is the sort of thing many gamers would want, & with xmas coming I know a number of people have expressed thoughts on getting one so thought this may be useful (a cut and paste of my post elsewhere)

Playseat Airforce, A flight seat / racing chair combo.

Purchased from boysstuff.co.uk a week ago, it arrived quickly however initially things did not go well with 1 of the bolt holes to mount the chair not being machined out.... boysstuff sent my issue over to playseat, who posted me out a replacement part within 2 days which was nice and fast... Sadly that is not quite the end of the story........ Part of me thinks I was sent an ex display model or a return to sender chair. a few of the velcro bits are missing (I have 1 side but not the other) and also (on top of the missing hole in the mount) one of the mounting holes in the CHAIR itself was dented which had knocked it ever so slightly out of alignment (another guess here but perhaps as if the rig was used with the stud around the screw mount sitting on the faulty chair frame with the missing hole which pushed it out of wack). There is what looks like scratches with a bit of rust on the stud (again which makes me question if it is new or not) and this has meant it was a right female dog putting it together.

That being said, once constructed it seems fairly sturdy, hopefully strong enough even for my lardy frame!.

Would I recommend it tho?

For me personally the jury is still out, but I am going to say a tentative yes but with the following small print.

The chair is comfy and as a racing chair I think it will be perfect (I need to get some bolts for my wheel to try properly) however I am tall. 6foot 2, and to make matters worse I actually have short legs (relatively) (a real pita for getting my head stuck on car ceilings). What this means for me, when using as a flight seat, which is my main function my issue is with the throttle and stick position, even when on max height are FAR to low down (ideally they need raising by 5 or 6 inches to be comfortable)... So I am going to have to fashion something myself.... which was the entire point of buying the chair so i did not have to do that.

On top of that with no wheels or anything, if you need to move it around it is a bit of a faff..... with no KB/M mount I am also not sure how usable it will be when playing fpsers. I have not experimented using it with my desk yet.

All that being said, for anyone under 6 foot who is averagely proportioned or for kids, and if you do not need to move it around I absolutely WOULD recommend it.... it is pretty cool!.

lol, an impressive set up. On the outskirts of Cambridge an enthusiast has a really cool simulator set up (its a business you can pay to fly in it for an hr), if you really get into this sort of thing it can set you back (10s of) 1000s of pounds.

if money was no object I would probably look at a vesaro or VRX set up, sadly I do not have that much money to burn ;)

Mate, get yourself a BKgamer for that seat, you won't regret it. Combined with the rift it ticks all boxes for full immersion. I went for an expensive office chair instead of a dedicated gaming seat, took the wheels off so it's fixed to floor, it's so damn comfortable, even my girlfriend admitted she could stay in it all day.

The rumble of the ship's engines give me a constant massage though the bkgamer :p

its on the list, but wont be for a while.... I have a large list of things i need to buy and only a finite amount of cash. possible xmas 2016 present.

and a new arm if you stick it out!

looks good, tho may be too extreme in reality. I would love to try it tho.

my worries are mainly safty related... and what would the weight limit be on it.

also needs a mount for a wheel and also hotas set ups.

all that being said....... i would buy if it was affordable... i doubt it iwll be tho.
