Flight Sim Recommendations

At a guess, I would imagine that there are a fair number of folks from Elite that also do Flight Sims... :)

I'm looking for a Flight Sim which would be

a) Good for a beginner (i.e someone who has not used a recent flight sim, but has a handle on flight principals if not specifics)
b) Preferably Open Source
c) Will run on Windows 10
d) Doesn't need anything more exciting than a Ryzen 1700 with 32Gb RAM and an Nvidia 1070

I've been considering FlightGear, as it seems to fit with what I want, does anyone have any thoughts or recommendations?

My personal recommendation is IL2 Battle of Stalingrad...there's also DCS for more modern stuff but I don't have it...I'm sure someone will pop along in a minute or so and tell you all about it :)

A bit older but still one of my go to sims is Rise of Flight...WW1 and very well supported by mods.

So yes, DCS World is a good one as well. :) You can download the free version - you will get Caucasus map, unarmed P-51 and Russian "Warthog" Su-25 with quite a lot of weapon options. Runs great for me on Win10 and you should be good to go with 32GB Ram. Sadly its not really an open source sim but you can get a lots of user made skins and missions.
Both Rise of Flight and Il-2 are also solid entries and from what I remember you can try RoF for free as well.
