Flight SIM's Prepar3d, DCS, IL-2 FSX

Hello Commanders,

I guess there are a few here like me who like to spend some time in the virtual cockpit.
So this thread will try to collect information of what is going on in the flight SIM world.

First here are a nice write up of the latest news.

I downloaded DCS a few weeks back, have yet to giv eit spin, but the Warthog and F5 options are looking like my first purchases. Looking forward to getting back into a cockpit after over 20 years away from sims.

You might be in a bit of a shocker because of how far things have moved on :) I'd be prepared to spend first dozen of hours just reading a manual to a selected aircraft :D

Excellent! This is exactly what I want to hear! That is how I spent my hours prior to school, during lunch, on the bus rides... Reading the manul for Falcon was almost as good as playing the game.

The difference between the free DCS version and a full on module is night and day.
I went directly into DCS A-10c when it came out, and as a result I just can't play the basic version - It's too simple! :D

But anyway, the tutorials in the A-10c are pretty good - They highlight the exact button or switch that need to be flipped.

I haven't played in a long time though, since my saitek X65-f started dieing. I lost five POV-hats — using keyboard for stuff like the targeting pod's slew, just doesn't feel good.

Yeah, DCS payed mode are as close as you will get to a real A-10C Warthog unless you are enrolled in the Airforce.
I love it, but its a lot of reading for sure. I also like all the new airplanes coming out. DCS world 2.0 is a huge step forward too.

The Warthog is the module I plan to buy first, seeing as I also have a Warthog Hotas, it should be quite cool. I also just got my VKB pedals, so I'm quite excited to get going. I should start reading the manual...

Nice little test flight - that module looks awesome!

I have to say, I'm looking forward to the F-14 module, my all time favourite aircraft...

Can't recall, is there a F-4 Phantom 2 in DCS? Now this would make me read a couple of manuals, just to fly it. This flying anvil is possibly my favorite aircraft, but there's just no games where you can fly it :/

Yeah but are they going to build carriers and different scenery for that?

Those who don't know what we are talking about, check it out here.

The following gives me hope that they will:
The DCS: F-14 will feature the vast majority of the Tomcat’s 200+ various systems and subsystems. This includes complex interconnected systems such as the AICS, Engines and Hydraulics and associated microprocessors. All of the Tomcat’s navigation, communication and datalink possibilities will be recreated, including those associated with carrier operations.
With the F-14; we hope to further enhance both the macro and micro-detail of systems fidelity in our product line. We’ve learned from our past products as well as mistakes, and hope to put that knowledge to good use.
All system components will be closely integrated with the AFM driving the underlying simulation of the aircraft.
The F-14 will ship with a completely new DCS Theatre, perfectly suited for the F-14 and Naval Operations of the era. This new theatre will be available seperately as well, and will be a great addition to the current fleet of available DCS Modules. A full, 20+ mission campaign will ship with the aircraft, allowing the player to undertake a vast array of missions and tasks.

Sounds promising!

Caramel Clown - not sure, though the F-4 is is also quite the aircraft, and I'd spend money on that, too.

Hola everyone,

A little update... today the Caucasus map for DCS World 2.5 had its terrain elevation resolution increased by an average of 400%. This has eliminated almost all sharp edges to the terrain; and it's added rolling hills, much more detailed ridges and mountain sides, and provided many new places to hide down low.

I'll try to post some images in the coming weeks.

Yes, this is still a FREE upgrade planned for later this year.

Thanks

That's big big news for rotorheads. [up]
