Flight Simulator 2020 and Microsoft's attitude

I know this isn't Elite related but an interview with one of the developers from Microsoft has huge meaning for what's happening here regarding Frontier, and it's clear how one companies attitude towards it's player base should be applauded. Something Frontier should really take notice of, instead of treating us like they do.

The important quote for me is this line, "We'll have to prove it to them that we're the legit ticket. And that's why we're doing extensive alphas and betas and give people the opportunity to give us feedback. But it needs to be there, it seemed obvious to us."

Pay attention Frontier !!

People say that gaming companies are not democracies and thus don't owe their customers anything. Perhaps, but I think fostering a good relationship with your community gives a company an evolutionary advantage over those that do not. Isn't Warframe's creators also known for their amazing community relations?

As someone else said, I see Microsoft Flight Simulator being as much if not more of a competitor to Elite Dangerous than other titles in the same genre - at least it will be for me!

I'm one of the alpha testers for this, so can't actually say anything about development, but their attitude is commendable by involving their core base of players. I couldn't agree more that if a company has good relations with its player base, wonderful things can happen. I also play Guild Wars 2, plenty of regular new content with regular weekly updates. Sure not everything is rosy there either, but the devs listen and patch regularly. You can't ask for more than that.

lol. I look forward to all the betas once their game is actually released. Betas are most useful before a release (as fdev just proved with their PZ release).

I wonder how many alphas and betas Microsoft Flight Simulator will have four years after it's released

Considering they never had to in the past regarding their flightsim products, doubt there will be any. Yes they patched them early on but that was it.

This
As I came from Microsoft flight sim to join Frontier Elite Beta with the Microsoft history’s in getting feed back from and giving it too it’s player base it seams to work well, Frontier could get more help giving and receiving feed back but also going back to the beta’s to sort out bugs with the player base.

We've had betas in the past, I don't get what's the fascination with them now. They didn't work then, and since the playerbase hasn't got any more mature, and nor has Frontier's release policy to maximize exposure, I don't see why they would work now.

Only last year (3.3) we had a 5 week staged beta. And this resulted in 3.3 being released with ... 5 patches. because betas aren't good for all classes of bug, and many people just rush off to try new stuff and don't bother report issues 'because they don't get paid to do that'. But hey, don't let reality get in the way of demands for more betas.

This thread once was black but now is white. I'll take this as a sign that MSF is an angel from heaven to save us from the devil of ED :p

What I've seen so far is awesome, and yes, I can see myself taking a small plane and doing an 'exploration' trip like I did in Elite, zig-zagging the world... I hope they will implement some kind of gameplay-framework to support this.

If you want to compare Microsoft's pre-release PR to Frontier, compare it to pre-release Frontier.
It's easy to be all pro-consumer and talkative when you are introducing a product that's not in the public hands.
cough NMS cough

It means nothing.
Frontier screwed up many things over the years, but they always honestly tried and I'm sorry but I'm not going to accept your premise that Microsoft is somehow better company when comes to handling criticism and listening to their community. That's just ridiculous.
